George Clooney’s $1M renovation of former LA bachelor pad moves forward with play cottage and villas for live-in help despite pandemic

  • Clooney is carrying out a million dollar renovation on his Studio City mansion, DailyMailTV first revealed in February

After spending decades as one of the world’s most eligible bachelors, George Clooney has splashed out more than a millions dollars on transforming his Los Angeles pad into a family estate.

The former ER star has long owned a property in the trendy Studio City neighborhood.

But since his marriage to wife Amal and the birth of their twins, it seems much work was needed to make the former bachelor pad suitable as a residence.

On Wednesday, aerial photos showed the scope of the ongoing building work that’s reported to be adding a play cottage and villas for live-in help.

The Hollywood star, 59, wed the Lebanese-born Amal Alamuddin, 42, in 2014 and they became parents to twins Ella and Alexander in 2017. 

In addition to the new buildings, Clooney has also applied to build a funicular or cable railroad, an outdoor pizza oven and a water feature on the property, according to planning documents.

Builders are also putting in a new steel staircase, extending the property’s deck with a trellis and revising its windows.

Back in February, construction had been well underway with neighbors saying the building work had been going on for months. 

In addition to the new buildings, Clooney has also applied to build a funicular or cable railroad

Clooney bought the original 7,354-square-foot six-bedroom villa for $2.2 million from Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks as his career began to take off in 1995.

He has since added a mansion on Lake Como in Italy and a sprawling four-acre estate on an island in the middle of the River Thames west of London, England, that includes a 17th century home. 

In 2016 he sold the compound he shared with close pal and business partner Rande Gerber in Los Cabos, Mexico, for $100 million.
