Terrifying moment gang surrounds couple’s car outside convenience shop then attacks and robs them on street – just 25 minutes before England lockdown began

  • A gang in Canterbury were caught on film allegedly assaulting a couple 
  • The incident on November 4 took place shortly before UK went into lockdown 
  • Kent Police say a silver neck chain was also reported stolen during the incident 

This is the moment a man and woman were surrounded by a gang before they were assaulted and robbed moments before the country entered a second lockdown. 

The gang reportedly stole a silver neck chain in the disturbing incident, which was caught on camera.  

The alleged assault occurred in Canterbury on November 4 at about 11.35 pm, just 25 minutes before the new lockdown rules were introduced in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus as cases rose across the UK.

In a clip recorded by a passerby, a black car can be seen parked outside a shop in St Dunstans with its hazard warning light flashing.

A number of men dressed in hoodies and tracksuits surround the vehicle and a woman can be heard screaming and crying in the background.

Two of the men reach into the car before walking away, and seconds later, a physical confrontation occurs between the group in the road.

Some of the men start chasing another man around the street.

One woman can be heard shouting, ‘F***ing touch her again,’ and another man also repeatedly shouts, ‘What are you doing?!’ as the group continues arguing.

Some of the men approach the vehicle again and pace around the street.

At one point, one of the attackers can also be seen swinging wildly attempting to hit the woman.

Police were called to the incident

A silver neck chain was also reportedly stolen

Kent Police were called to the incident and said: ‘Officers attended the scene in St Dunstan’s Street in Canterbury where a man and a woman reported they had been assaulted by a group of four people and a silver neck chain had been stolen during the incident’

In a statement, a police spokesman said: ‘Kent Police was called to a report of a robbery at 11.35pm on Wednesday 4 November 2020.

‘Officers attended the scene in St Dunstan’s Street in Canterbury where a man and a woman reported they had been assaulted by a group of four people and a silver neck chain had been stolen during the incident.’
