‘I’m glad she did it’: Bachelorette runner-up Joe Woodbury says he is grateful he was spared ‘brutal’ dumping by Elly Miles during finale

The Bachelorette’s Elly Miles defied producers when she dumped runner-up Joe Woodbury ahead of the official final rose ceremony.

And now, Joe, 25, has admitted he is grateful he was spared a ‘brutal’ dumping at the grand finale.

‘I’m so glad that Elly came and did it the way she did, like poor Becky having to dump someone on that final stage – that’s brutal,’ he said on The Babble podcast.

‘I was very grateful she came into my room and did that to me, it’s not much privacy but you’re not out there in the middle of the stage in the open,’ Joe explained.

The Newcastle-based labour told Bachelor Matty J that Elly’s decision to visit moments before the finale was a complete surprise.

‘I was literally getting ready in the room looking out just thinking of what I’ve got ahead of me, and I literally heard the door open,’ he explained.

‘As soon as I seen her I was like, oh s**t here we go.’

While he felt heartbroken, Joe said he could see how devastated Elly, 25, was to tell him that she had decided to pick Frazer instead.

During their encounter, Elly was inconsolable, and choked back tears, as she had a heart to heart with Joe, who previously confessed to falling in love with her.

Elly began by telling Joe how happy it made her feel to hear that he was falling in love with her.

‘You tell me that you’re falling in love with me. You know, I can’t tell you how happy that makes me feel, hearing you say those words to me.

‘I just don’t know if I felt the way I was supposed to feel hearing you say that, Joe.’

Despite admitting to feeling ‘gutted’, Joe said he appreciated Elly’s honesty.

‘I appreciate a lot you coming out and having a chat with me. It means the world, and it just goes to show the type of person you are.’

While sister Becky has already called time on her romance with ‘winner’ Pete Mann, Elly is still exploring her romance with ‘winner’ Frazer Neate.
