Michael Strahan settles with ex-wife in case where he claimed she abused their teenage daughters

Michael Strahan has settled with his ex-wife Jean Muggli in the case where he accused her of abusing their teenage daughters.

He had accused her of demonstrating a ‘pattern of abusive conduct’ towards 16-year-old twins Sophia and Isabella, but agreed to dismiss those claims ‘with prejudice’ after the parties reached a settlement agreement on October 13, Page Six reports citing court documents.

The parents have also arrived at a custody deal whereby Michael, 48, and Jean each get the children for a week at a time.

Their new agreement also stipulates that Jean obtain a residence on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, which is where Michael lives.

The case was settled in the New Hanover County District court in North Carolina, the state where Jean was living with the girls.

Sophia and Isabella go to two different private high schools in New York City, so Jean’s getting a place in Manhattan will facilitate their continued education there.

Michael’s allegations were that Jean abused Sophia and Isabella emotionally and physically, TMZ reported in March citing court documents.

At that point he was arguing that he should be awarded primary custody of Sophia and Isabella, which Jean then had.

He claimed that although the children were court-ordered to go to therapy, Jean neglected to get them to their sessions.

The Good Morning America anchor also accused his ex-wife of being the reason the girls were not making it to their volleyball and equestrian commitments.

‘A source in his camp recently told Page Six that only when Jean ‘agreed to all of the terms proposed by Michael’ was the settlement reached.’

Although their North Carolina case has been resolved, they are also fighting a child support case in New York City that is ongoing.

Jean filed the case last June and insisted that cost of living adjustments should be made to the child support, increasing Michael’s payments.

An insider in Jean’s camp says the case has been held up because of a dispute on the precise amount of the proposed payment hike.

‘He continues to not pay child support more than a year after [Jean filed] the case,’ alleged a source close to Jean. ‘He agrees there is additional money owed but refuses pay it.’

An insider in Michael’s camp claimed that Jean ‘refuses to accept payment on those [child support] adjustments unless Michael agrees to modify the terms of the New Jersey Divorce Decree and continue support payments for many years after the children reach adulthood.’

Jean’s insider argued that child support payments can last through the children’s college educations under New Jersey law.

One of Jean’s contentions in the Manhattan case is that Michael said he would pay equestrian fees for their daughters but ‘reneged’ on his word, Page Six reported.

They had a closed-door mediation in the New York case this Thursday – and that day, according to a source close to Jean, she petitioned the Manhattan Supreme Court to hold Michael in contempt of their 2009 custody deal.

Michael and Jean were first introduced when he was a professional football player and she worked at a skincare salon, the New York Daily News reported.

They married in 1999 and welcomed their twins in 2004 before finalizing their divorce in 2006 – although the financial battle raged on.

MIchael was ultimately ordered to pay Jean over $15 million plus child support, and she was also to get half the proceeds from the auction of their New Jersey mansion.

He was previously married from 1992 until 1996 to one Wanda Hutchins with whom he shares his daughter Tanita, 28, and son Michael Jr., 25.
