Offset slated to make his acting debut in the new drama American Sole

Just a year after his wife Cardi B made her acting debut in the hit film Hustlers, Offset is making the transition to acting as well.

The 28-year-old rapper (real name Kiari Kendrell Cephus) has signed on to make his acting debut in STXFilms’ drama American Sole, according to Deadline.

Offset will be joined by Pete Davidson, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Camila Mendes, and he will be pulling double duty as well, helping to curate the soundtrack along with contributing an original song to it.

The story follows two young entrepreneurs (Davidson and Jackson Jr.) who are drowning in college debt.

They come into some fast cash when they start an after-market sneaker re-selling business, though when they run out of cash, a ‘shady investor’ appears to be their only way out, as their dream business becomes a nightmare. 

Offset will be playing a computer engineer who, ‘becomes critical to the storyline’ though no other details about his character.

Ian Edelman (The After Party) is writing and directing the film, with Kevin Hart producing through his HartBeat Productions company.

Also producing is NBA superstar Chris Paul, making his producing debut through his new company Ohh Dip!!!

HartBeat’s Bryan Smiley will serve as executive producer, with Drew Simon and Patricia Braga overseeing the project for STXfilms. 

Offset will also collaborate with director Edelman and STX Music executive Jason Markey to produce and curate American Sole: The Soundtrack Album.

This will also mark the first time Offset will take on a project like this as a solo artist, and not with his Migos collaborators Quavo and Takeoff. 

‘To have Offset joining our team is a dream scenario,” said Adam Fogelson, chairman of STXfilms Motion Picture Group.

‘Offset’s character is important to the storyline and we couldn’t be more excited to have him working with us behind the scenes as he works with Ian and the team at STX to help us define the sound of this film. We could not be in better hands,’ Fogelson added. 

‘This is my first feature film as an actor. After doing NCIS, I knew I wanted to do more acting,’ Offset said in a statement.

‘Landing this role in American Sole is dope. Not only do I get to star in the movie, but I get to bring my skills to the table as the curator and executive producer for the soundtrack. I’m bringing my world to the big screen. I hope the world is ready,’ he added.
