Olivia Wilde says two-week shutdown on Don’t Worry Darling is due to an ‘abundance of caution’

Olivia Wilde to her Instagram Stories on Thursday afternoon to give her 3.5 million Instagram followers an update on the upcoming film Don’t Worry Darling.

The movie set was shut down on Wednesday after a crew member tested positive for the coronavirus.

Olivia, 36, clarified in her video that shooting would be halted for two weeks as her stars, including Harry Styles, Chris Pine and Florence Pugh, all isolated.

Olivia looked casual in her Instagram clip, which featured an old-timey movie filter with dust flecks.

She wore a navy blue shirt that was relevant to the topic at hand, as it featured an illustration of Dr. Anthony Fauci, who serves as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

She began by thanking fans who had expressed ‘such kind concern’ for her and the cast and crew of Don’t Worry Darling.

‘We are shutting down for two weeks to quarantine just to make sure everybody is very safe. It’s out of an abundance of caution,’ she said, crediting the productions medical advisors at New York City’s Mount Sinai Hospital.

‘Everybody’s OK, and we’re just going to keep on working hard,’ she continued.

Olivia also gave a shout-out to her ‘incredibly crew,’ adding, ‘I love you guys, I miss you already. You’re my family.’

The Booksmart director ended her short video with a reminder of voters to check their ballot status.

Voters in some states still have time to correct errors in absentee ballots, such as forgetting to send it with a security envelope or having a signature that doesn’t match the one on file.

Deadline reported Wednesday that the production company New Line Cinema paused production after the positive test result came up during routine testing.

A source on the production said the positive test result didn’t come from any of the principal cast, but it was someone who was in close contact, which required the full shutdown.

So far, only that crew member is reported to have tested positive.

Little is known of the film so far, though its set in a desert community in the 1950s and stars Florence Pugh as a housewife.

Harry costars as her husband, who appears to have a strong relationship with his wife but also harbors a dark secret.

This is his biggest film role to date, after he impressed critics with a small role in Christopher Nolan’s hit WWII film Dunkirk.

KiKi Layne, whose performance in 2018’s If Beale Street Could Talk was acclaimed by critics, signed on to the film in early October, after Dakota Johnson was forced to drop out of the film due to a scheduling conflict. 

Olivia proved her skills as a filmmaker after directing the critically acclaimed coming-of-age comedy Booksmart, though the film only did modest business at the box office.

The newest thriller also shows her expanding into screenwriting, as she co-wrote it with Katie Silberman and Carey Van Dyke.
