Drunken Jet2 thug threatened to urinate on staff after being asked to wear face mask on plane

A man has been fined £670 after threating to drag a Jet2 manager off the plane and urinate on staff when he was told to sit down.

Christopher Tooth, aged 57, was on board the flight to Cyprus and became aggressive after tensions boiled over when he was asked to wear a face mask.

Both Tooth and his son Matthew became abusive with staff, at one stage they followed them to the galley, but the incident appeared to calm down and they were directed back to their seats, Manchester Magistrates Court was told.

However, tensions became heated when they were asked to wear face masks, with Christopher getting ‘inches’ away from one of the passengers’ faces.

The cabin manager became involved holding Tooth, of Middleton, back, but he became aggressive telling them: ‘I’ll f***ing drag you off this plane.’

As the aircraft taxied up to Manchester Airport, Tooth repeatedly tried to get up after being told to stay seated before saying: ‘Shall I p**s on you then, w****r?’

His son Matthew, aged 34, was due to appear alongside him but failed to attend – a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Opening the case, prosecutor Brian O’Kelly said the incident took place on October 23 this year when Tooth and his son were on the Jet2 flight from Cyprus to Manchester.

‘The incident began when Matthew Tooth was accused of eating one of the personal dinners of one of the cabin crew and he could be heard saying: ‘She’s telling me I’m eating her sk**k food’.

‘Christopher Tooth intervened, said it was ‘out of order’ and he became aggressive with staff.

‘They both followed the cabin crew to the galley at the rear of the plane and became abusive and aggressive, but were eventually directed back to their seats.’

The court heard that the incident did calm down but picked up again when Matthew refused to wear a face mask after being asked by the cabin manager, and Christopher became involved again.

He became abusive to one of the passengers who asked him to wear a mask and was said to be ‘inches’ from her face.

‘There were fears that the defendant was about to assault the passenger and he was held back by the cabin manager,’ Mr O’Kelly said.

‘He stated: “I’ll f***ing drag you off this plane”.

‘When the plane landed and taxied to the airport, the defendant stood up, but was asked to sit down as they were still moving.

‘He sat down but stood up again and said he needed to use the toilet, stating: ‘Shall I p**s on you then, w****r?’

‘Once the plane came to a standstill, he made his way to the rear of the aircraft to go to the toilet, which was locked.

‘He broke the handle into the toilet and urinated with the door open in view of the female crew member.’

He had also urinated on his seat, the court heard.

In mitigation, his defence lawyer Andrew Marsh told the court: ‘Mr Tooth would wish to apologise for his behaviour, he didn’t recognise what has been set out in opening.

‘He wishes to apologise to the court, to the authorities for having to deal with him and the staff who had to deal with him on board.

‘He tells me he and his son had been to Cyprus tying up personal affairs – his estranged wife, grandchild and daughter live out there, he had seen them and was coming back with his son and they had a few drinks before getting on the flight.

‘They didn’t drink on board.

‘At the time this commotion started he was asleep, he was alerted by the noise and recognised it was his son.

‘He went over to try and calm matters down but became embroiled in the commotion.

‘He doesn’t understand why the situation got out of control..’

Sentencing him, Manchester JPs said: ‘Looking at your behaviour, it was totally unacceptable, unpleasant and offensive.

‘It was committed on a plane, a confined space where everyone was aware of your actions and unable to move away.

‘The staff were doing their jobs and should not have to tolerate such behaviour they’ve been exposed to.’
