‘Here’s to 2020 everyone!’ Chris Stark is left fuming after being stuck in traffic for ten HOURS during lockdown stampede (and being forced to pee in his Love Island water bottle)

Chris Stark admits he was fuming on Wednesday evening after a straightforward forty minute drive home took ten hours, with the presenter forced to relieve himself in his Love Island water bottle.

The BBC Radio DJ found  himself caught in streaming traffic as commuters attempted to evacuate London on the eve of England’s second national lockdown of the year.

The unprecedented rush-hour stampede resulted in widespread gridlock across the city, with hapless Chris, 33, caught in the middle of it as he attempted to drive home.

Addressing Twitter followers while stuck in traffic, the DJ admitted he was also forced to suffer the humiliation of peeing into the first receptacle he could find after being left bursting for the loo.

He fumed: ‘Just sat here. In a traffic jam. My journey Radio 1 to home normally about 40 mins. I’m 8 hours deep, just in centre of Hammersmith.

‘A love island water bottles worth of warm p**s next to me. Here’s to 2020 everyone.’

It was another two hours before Chris returned to the social media platform to announce that he had finally made it home after an astonishing ten hour journey.

The unexpected nightmare prompted a light-hearted response from pals, with presenter Rob Beckett tweeting: ‘You don’t get to complete 2020 until you drink that p**s.’

Responding to the post, Chris quipped: ‘I’ll save it for a special occasion…’

Celebrity chef Tom Kerridge also got involved, tweeting: ‘Thirsty?’

Elsewhere another follower joked: ‘Something to open up on New Year’s Eve to celebrate the end (we hope) of 2020.’

Plating his unconventional toilet break for laughs, a third wrote: ‘Mate ive just been stuck in traffic for so long too. London is a nightmare today… Didn’t have to pee in a bottle though.’

Another added: ‘I saw your first tweet about the traffic jam when putting my kid to bed. Since then I’ve had dinner, drunk half a bottle of wine and seen Biden take 2 more states and you’ve.. you’ve pi***ed in a bottle and gone nowhere in that time.’

Evidently in the mood for banter, a local school also got in the act, tweeting:  ‘Hey Chris, We are looking for prizes for our charity raffle in December. We don’t suppose you have any personalised Love Island merch….?’

‘Worse thing you could do at this point is forget it’s not water and take a sip,’ wrote another amused follower.

Congestion in London was at 38 per cent between 7am and 8am on Thursday morning, with data from location technology firm TomTom, which revealed there were 536 jams across 255 miles of road in the capital.

The congestion level today was significantly up from the 27 per cent observed this time last week, although much of that will have been thanks to the lack of a school run due to the half-term holidays.

On Wednesday evening there were 1,100 miles of jams in London alone at 6pm and the M25 was brought to a near-standstill.
