CBS unveils annual Christmas specials lineup that includes two of the classics: Rudolph and Frosty

It’s a sign the holidays are right around the corner.

CBS released its annual Christmas specials lineup that will kick off on the network on Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving. 

Fans of the classics will be happy to learn that this year’s rundown includes the likes of Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty The Snowman. 

Frosty The Snowman will kick-off the holiday specials season by airing from 8-8:30p.m. ET/PT on November 27.

The animated special, based on the Walter E. Rollins and Steve Nelson song of the same name, has been broadcast in the lead-up to Christmas every year since its premiere in 1969. It features the voices of comedians Jimmy Durante as the film’s narrator, Billy De Wolfe as Professor Hinkle and Jackie Vernon in the iconic role of Frosty.  

There will be more magical times when Frosty Returns immediately follows that very same evening from 8:30-9 p.m. Jonathan Winters took over as narrator and John Goodman played the voice of Frosty in the 1992 animated special that had been broadcasted on CBS since it first premiered on television on December 1, 1992. 

Robbie The Reindeer: Hooves Of Fire will air the next night, Saturday, November 28, from 8-8:30 p.m. 

The holiday special originally premiered in 1999 with British voices, but was redubbed with American accents for its 2002 debut. The story centers on Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’s son Robbie, voiced by Ben Stiller, who must train to compete in the Reindeer Races to become a part of the sleigh team for Santa, played by Jim Belushi. 

The 2002 follow-up — Robbie The Reindeer: Legend Of The Lost Tribe — will directly follow from 8:30 p.m. – 9 p.m on the 28th. Some of the stars lending their voices include Britney Spears, Hugh Grant, James Woods, Leah Remini, Jerry Stiller and Jeff Goldblum.  

The November 28 holiday specials blitz will conclude with the 1996 musical — The Story of Santa Claus — from 9-10 p.m. ET/PT. It features the voices of Ed Asner, Betty White and Tim Curry.  

The final special will be the iconic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, which will air for a 56th consecutive year, on Tuesday, December 4, from 8-9 p.m. ET/PT.

The 1964 classic is narrated by Burl Ives, who’s also the voice of Sam the Snowman. Based on the popular song of the same name by Johnny Marks, the story recounts the tale of a shy reindeer whose Christmas spirit is dampened because his shiny nose has made him the laughingstock of all of Christmasville.

This year’s CBS line-up does not include the always popular Charlie Brown holiday specials. Instead it will be available to stream on AppleTV+, according to People.
