Russell Wilson reveals he spends a whopping $1 million a year on his workout/recovery regimen

Playing quarterback in the NFL most certainly takes a toll on one’s body, but Seattle Seahawks signal-caller Russell Wilson spares no expense to remain in peak physical condition.

The 31-year-old athlete, playing in hits ninth NFL season with the Seahawks, revealed he spends $1 million a year on his workout/recovery regiment on Bill Simmons’ The Ringer podcast.

He also revealed he’s spending these big bucks to help him achieve a goal that’s quite rare for quarterbacks: playing until he’s 45 years old.

‘I probably spend $1 million if not more, a year, just on recovery,’ he said on the podcast.

Simmons commented that this whole season amid the COVID-19 pandemic seemed like it was coming together, ‘by the seat of everybody pants,’ which Wilson responded, ‘Yeah, if you let it catch you by surprise.’

Wilson then went on to detail the high-priced ‘performance team’ that he has on his regular payroll.

‘I got a full-time trainer that travels with me everywhere, works with Ciara too. His name is Decker Davis,’ he added.

He added that he also has a full-time physical therapist named Amy, plus, ‘a full-time mobile person that’s working on me, making sure I’m moving the right way and everything else.

The quarterback also enlists a ‘full-time massage person, two chefs,’ adding, ‘We have a whole performance team.’

Simmons joked that his whole team sounds similar to LeBron James’ team, joking, ‘You went full LeBron on us.’

Wilson added he’s been doing all of this for the past five or six years, adding he also has a hyperbaric chamber, which allows the lungs to gather more oxygen.

‘Oh, I got everything. I got all the toys. I got two hyperbaric chambers. I got a little bit of everything,’ Wilson added.

He added that he gets in the hyperbaric chamber three or four times a week, and he gets treatment on his body literally every day.

Wilson said his quarterback coach asked him how many days he does body work, and he said, ‘It’s more like how many days I don’t.’

‘I do 365. I probably do 363. Really the reality is Christmas, depending on the circumstances, and usually I do because we usually have a game around then, and Thanksgiving,’ he added.

He said that he’s doing all of this work, ‘Because I’m trying to play until I’m 45 at least. So for me, my mentality is I’m gonna leave it all out on the field, and do everything I can and take care of myself.

If he does in fact play until he’s 45, he’ll be the second-oldest quarterback ever to play in the NFL (tied with Steve DeBerg and John Nesser), behind George Blanda, who played until he was 48.
