Millie Mackintosh talks being a new mum and her daughter Sienna’s hip dysplasia

She welcomed her first child, her daughter Sienna, with husband Hugo Taylor in May. 

And Millie Mackintosh has spoken out about being a first-time mum in a new episode of Made By Mammas: The Podcast released on Tuesday. 

The former Made In Chelsea star, 30, talked about how Hugo helped her out during labour despite the Covid-19 restrictions, Sienna’s hip dysplasia and how trolls ‘upset me so much’ after giving birth.   

Talking to hosts Zoe Hardman and Georgia Dayton,  Millie said: ‘Because of Covid, he (Hugo) couldn’t stay in the hospital. So I was in for two nights.  

‘The midwife really looked after me, and he was at home getting everything ready, making the house look perfect, filling the fridge with all my favourite foods, and I told him to just sleep.

‘Just get some sleep in because when I get home, you’re not going to be getting much sleep. He was a big, big help when Sienna arrived, definitely.’

When Zoe and Georgia asked how Hugo has taken to fatherhood, Millie replied, ‘He has taken to the role really well. I thought he would. But he’s completely surpassed my expectations, he’s been amazing.’

Millie also discussed her daughter’s hip dysplasia, which is a condition where the ‘ball and socket’ joint of the hip does not properly form in babies and young children.

Talking about when she first found out, Millie said, ‘She had a scan on her hips because she was breech. It’s a standard thing the NHS do if your baby is born breech, they do a scan. 

‘They’d done one already at six weeks and they said they wanted to do another one but not to worry, they said there probably wasn’t anything wrong but they wanted to just do another scan to have a look at them again in another six weeks.’

‘We went to see the paediatric physio and they said she’s got hip dysplasia, in one of her hips the hip socket isn’t properly formed and she’s going to have to go into a harness today and she’s going to have to wear it for the next 6-12 weeks. It was a massive shock.’

‘It was really hard seeing my really happy, docile little bubba just screaming round the clock.’

The conversation then moved on to social media and Millie said it is ‘most dangerous is when people just pretend everything’s perfect all the time.’ 

Georgia went on to ask if Millie has experienced any negatives on social media since giving birth. 

Millie told the hosts about her personal experiences: ‘The first picture I ever posted on Instagram of Sienna was me, Hugo and Sienna when she was a few weeks old and someone said I was holding her wrong and clearly I was a bad mum, and it upset me so much.’
