Strictly’s Jacqui Smith says her body is ‘in agony’ as she comes back fighting with a ‘bouncy’ Samba after scoring the bottom of the leader board

She made her debut on Strictly Come Dancing last weekend.

But Jacqui Smith revealed she is in ‘agony’ during rehearsals for her forthcoming Samba performance with professional dance partner, Anton Du Beke, on Friday.

The former Home Secretary, 57, said the intense training has taken its toll on her knees and feet, but she is excited hopefully climb up the leaderboard after being placed bottom last week.

She said during an interview on Good Morning Britain: ‘There has been quite a lot of bouncing, the knees are suffering, my feet are in agony.

‘I’m getting through the plasters at a rate of knots, but I’m really really enjoying this dance.

‘All I need to do – all I need to do – is give it some welly and hopefully make sure everyone enjoys it as much as I am.’

Strictly’s first dancing duo will be eliminated on Saturday’s episode, with Jacqui and Anton tipped to leave.

According to Ladbrokes, the odd are stacked against the dancing pair at 4/7. 

Jacqui and Anton received a judge’s score of 13 out of 30 for their first performance, the lowest score of the night.

Singer, HRVY, 21, claimed the top spot as he scored 25 points for his Jive performance with professional dancer, Janette Manrara.

Strictly professional, Gorka Marquez, 30, and EastEnders star Maisie Smith, 19, trailed closely behind with a score of 24 points, thanks to their energy-filled Samba.

Jacqui hopes to follow in their footsteps with a zestful dance routine to the song, Help Yourself, by Sir Tom Jones. 

The former Home Secretary is also relying on the public vote to see her through to next week’s show.  

She added: ‘I’m going to need to fall on the British public to defend me and keep me in, please, for another week, because I’m absolutely loving it.’
