Meghan Markle’s best friend Jessica Mulroney announces plans to help teachers

Meghan Markle’s best friend Jessica Mulroney has announced her ‘summer project’ is an organisation to help teachers in need of help.

The stylist, 40, from Toronto, shared a picture of a logo for an organisation called The Teacher Registry on Instagram, posting: ‘Finally done. My summer project. I cannot wait for you to hear from teachers that need your help.’

The project is one of the first Jessica has announced since she found herself at the centre of a Black Lives Matter race row in June, after being accused of using her ‘white privilege’ against a black social media influencer.

The fall-out saw Jessica lose several high profile jobs, and the Duchess of Sussex, 39, was reported to have cut ties with her best friend.

In the post Jessica shared yesterday, she posted: ‘The reality of the state of our schools may surprise you.’

The announcement of the new project comes weeks after Jessica has revealed she is taking a ‘much needed break’ for a few weeks to ‘get some real work done’.

The stylist shared a selfie wearing a red suit and monochrome vest top on Instagram last month, captioning the post: ‘Little girls night before a much needed break to get some real work done. See you in a few wegeks.’

She later changed the caption on the post to say she was taking a ‘pause’ so that she could ‘finish an exciting project.’

The controversy saw Jessica lose several high profile jobs, and the Duchess of Sussex, 39, was reported to have cut ties with her best friend.

Mother-of-three Jessica returned to the social media platform on August 11 following a two-month break after the public rift with Sasha Exeter.

Earlier this month, Jessica sent social media into overdrive this weekend after posting a cryptic message about her ‘true friends’.

She took to Instagram early yesterday to write: ‘Thank you to our true friends for sticking by us. We could never have made it without you.

‘Silver lining: we finally know the a******s who we thought were our friends. Best gift we could have ever been given.’

Many interpreted this as a swipe at Meghan, but The Mail on Sunday revealed that the Duchess has privately stood by her friend and they remain close.

The Duchess was reported to have cut ties with Mrs Mulroney after the black Canadian influencer Sasha Exeter accused her of ‘threatening her livelihood’ after ‘taking offence’ at a call to arms on a Black Lives Matter video she posted.

Behind the scenes, Meghan, who lives with Prince Harry in California, has been quietly counselling mother-of-three Mrs Mulroney.

A friend said: ‘Jess has been a really loyal friend to Meg, she has stood by her through some really tough times. Jess may have made an egregious mistake, but that doesn’t mean she’s racist.

‘Meghan has stood by her privately and they’ve talked a lot. Jess was loyal to Meghan for many, many years. There was no way that Meg would let her down.’

Amid the controversy, Jessica was dropped by major TV networks including America’s ABC and Canada’s CTV and she publicly apologised for her actions.

A source told DailyMail.com at the time that Meghan was left ‘mortified’ by the scandal and informed her close friends she felt she could ‘no longer be associated’ with Jessica.

‘Meghan is absolutely mortified that she’s been dragged into this complete mess. She said Jessica is in no way a racist, but the way she handled the situation [with Sasha] was tone-deaf and heartbreaking,’ a close friend of Meghan’s said at the time.

‘Meghan said friends reflect friends and because of what’s at stake she can no longer be associated with Jessica, at least not in public.

‘She has to do what she has to do in order to preserve her dignity and her own reputation,’ the source added, admitting that they ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ if the controversy was the ‘beginning of the end of their friendship’.
