Injured Alexandra Cane admits ‘moving a little and better food choices’ have helped her feel better

Alexandra Cane was feeling reflective on Friday, after falling off a treadmill and injuring her knee this week.

The Love Island star, 29, took to Instagram to post a snap of herself a year ago and one of her now, brandishing a crutch thanks to her injury.

She captioned this: ‘Different year, different battle. (1 year ago!)

Now and then: Alexandra Cane was feeling reflective on Friday, after falling off a treadmill and injuring her knee this week

‘This post on the right was exactly a year ago today, I laid my cards on the table & decided to fully commit to choosing better for myself. Following this, I embarked on a journey that would hopefully result in a happier, healthier ‘me’ and fall back in love with fitness again.

‘I chose to stop putting others opinions before my own and start putting myself as the priority, to really commit to myself, to recognise my strengths AND weaknesses, to push my boundaries.

‘Last year I was seeking my love for fitness. This year, I’ve found it. I may be facing a different hurdle with my knee injury (yet again) but this time it’s different.

‘My mindset & approach is different. I trust myself so much now – the discipline I have, the knowledge I’ve acquired, the patience I have with myself, but most importantly, my WHY, my PURPOSE.

‘Understanding your WHY is the key to success & maintenance regardless of the struggles you may be faced with. Be under no illusion, the aesthetic benefits of exercise & good nutrition are the LEAST important!

‘Actually, what it does for your mind, really is the driving force. The difference in mindset I’ve noticed even within the last few days of not being able to train properly has made me appreciate & understand exactly why I do.

‘I’ve felt anxious, stressed, reactive, but with a little movement today & better food choices, those feelings feel like a distant memory. Whatever hurdles we may face, we have the power to turn it into a strength.

‘Start with baby steps, it doesn’t need to be extreme. And whatever your goals are, just remember, It’s not about anyone else. It’s about you. Live for you. Do it for you. Honour YOU.’

‘It’s a great reminded of why exercise is so important to your lifestyle as it is such a stress reliever and helps you focus & help your body function properly.

‘Tomorrow is a new day & hopefully have the results back from my MRI soon so I have something to work towards. The not knowing is always the difficult part.’

‘Last year I hit rock bottom and knew that no one was going to save me but myself.

‘I had an unhealthy relationship with food & alcohol which I was using as coping mechanisms to mask what was really going on underneath.’

Alexandra decided things could not go on as they were, and she decided to return to the gym in a bid to transform both her physical health and mental wellbeing.

She said: ‘A solid year of self development has transformed me not only physically, but most importantly, mentally. I am a different woman.

‘Any pain you might be suffering right now is an opportunity, not for others to see how strong you are, but for you to see how strong you are. Quit doubting yourself- YOU CAN.’
