Dakota Johnson to star in film Cult Following, based on upcoming memoir, alongside Riley Keough

Dakota Johnson has signed-on to play a woman caught in the web of a cult.

The Fifty Shades actress will co-executive produce and co-star alongside Riley Keough, in an upcoming limited series based on Bexy Cameron’s upcoming memoir, Cult Following.

The project is a collaboration between Johnson and Ro Donnelly’s production company TeaTime Pictures and Keough and Gina Gammell’s production company Felix Culpa.

New project: Riley Keough will play Johnson's close friend, who embark on a road trip of self-discovery together

Unique perspective: Dakota Johnson will star in a limited series based on Bexy Cameron’s upcoming memoir, Cult Following, alongside Riley Keough

Johnson will portray Cameron as she recounts her upbringing as a member of the Children of God and her journey after her emancipation from the cult when she was just 16-years-old.

Keough will star as Cameron’s close friend who goes on a road trip with her to document and investigate contemporary cults that exist in America today.

Their journey consists of meltdowns, meth cooks, monks, Jesus freaks, soap-making Armageddonists, surveillance vans, ex-Apple employees, according to Deadline.

And while out on their adventure on the road, Cameron is able to examine and process the psychology and trauma she experienced as a child raised in a cult that culminates with a confrontation with her parents.

Keough and her Felix Culpa partner, Gammell, added, ‘We are so thrilled to bring Bexy’s incredible story to television alongside our dear, beautiful friends at TeaTime, Dakota and Ro. We couldn’t dream of better collaborators for this. Thank you Platform One, we can’t wait for this adventure.’

Johnson and Donnelly said in a statement: ‘It has been a dream of ours since we launched TeaTime to collaborate with Riley and Gina at Felix Culpa. We are beyond thrilled to join forces and friendship to bring Bexy’s remarkable story to the screen. Alongside Platform One, we look forward to adding the final top notch collaborators to the team.’
