Big Brother renewed for a 23rd season just hours before the two-hour Season 22 finale on CBS

As America waits to see which of the three finalists will win Season 22 of Big Brother, dubbed Big Brother All-Stars, the show is officially coming back for another season.

CBS announced on Wednesday that it has renewed Big Brother for a 23rd season, with host Julie Chen Moonves returning, debuting in the summer of 2021.

One of this season’s finalists – Nicole Franzel, Cody Calafiore and Enzo Palumbo – will be crowned the Big Brother All-Stars champion during Wednesday night’s two-hour finale at 9 PM ET on CBS.

‘At Big Brother, we always say “expect the unexpected,” but 2020 gave us our biggest challenge to date!’ said Mitch Graham, Senior Vice President, Alternative Programming, CBS Entertainment in a statement.

‘We could not be prouder of the entire team who delivered a fantastic season under such extreme circumstances,’ he added. 

‘It feels fitting for this unprecedented season to conclude with an announcement of the show’s return next summer,’ Graham concluded.

This year’s season, Big Brother All-Stars, brought back previous contestants from previous seasons.

The houseguests move into a home outfitted with 94 HD cameras and more than 113 microphones, recording their every move 24 hours a day. 

Each week, someone will be voted out of the house, with the last remaining Houseguest receiving the grand prize of $500,000.

Aside from the three episodes per week that air on CBS (Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays), fans can watch the live feeds 24/7.

This season, the Big Brother Live Feeds are up ‘double-digit percentage points over last season in both total streams and time spent,’ according to CBS.

‘Across social, season-to-date, BIG BROTHER: ALL STARS is experiencing a +75% increase in linear social interactions compared to last season (episode 1 through episode 36),’ according to Nielsen Social.

The show is based on the format created by John de Mol (The Voice), first launched in The Netherlands in 1999.

The show has expanded to 54 countries around the world including the American and Dutch versions.
