In Treatment returns for a fourth season on HBO with Uzo Aduba starring as new therapist

Ten years after the third and seemingly final season aired on HBO, In Treatment is returning with a new star, Uzo Aduba (Orange Is the New Black).

Aduba, 39, is set to star in a new season of In Treatment, portraying a new therapist named Brooke Lawrence, according to an HBO press release.

The half-hour drama series will follow Lawrence as she manages a trio of different patients, while dealing with her own issues as well.

Production is scheduled to begin this fall, under strict COVID-19 filming guidelines, with the season scheduled to debut in 2021.

Additional casting is slated to be announced at a later date, with the show set to air on HBO with episodes slated to stream later on HBO Max.

The series originally debuted on HBO in 2008, following Gabriel Byrne as psychotherapist Dr. Paul Weston, who reunites with his old therapist, Dr. Gina Toll (Dianne Wiest), who he hadn’t seen in 10 years, to resolve his own issues.

The original show also featured a number of up and coming stars such as Mia Wasikowska, who would go on to star in Alice in Wonderland, Michelle Forbes, who later starred in True Blood and The Killing and Dane DeHaan, before his star-making turn in Chronicle.

Other guest stars include Blair Underwood, Josh Charles, Amy Ryan, Melissa George, Irrfan Khan, Debra Winger, Allison Pill and Hope Davis, to name a few.

The show is based on the Israeli series of the same name by Hagai Levi, aired for three seasons from 2008 to 2010

The new season of In Treatment will be produced by HBO Entertainment along with  executive producers Stephen Levinson, Mark Wahlberg, Hagai Levi, Jennifer Schuur, Joshua Allen and Melissa Bernstein.

Joanne Toll and Noa Tishby serve as co-executive producers, with the show produced in association with Leverage, Closest to the Hole Productions and Sheleg. 

The original series earned Peabody and AFI awards over its three season run, with Gabriel Byrne earning a Golden Globe and Dianne Weist earning an Emmy win.

Aduba is coming off her Emmy-winning performance as Shirley Chisolm in Mrs. America.

She has also won two Emmy Awards for her role as Susanne ‘Crazy Eyes’ Warren in the hit Netflix series Orange is the New Black.

The actress will next be seen on the big screen in Really Love alongside Michael Ealy and Naturi Naughton, and the upcoming series Americanah with Lupita Nyong’o.
