Sylvia Jeffreys speaks about getting sacked from Nine’s Today show due to low ratings

‘It can be frustrating when things don’t go to plan’: Sylvia Jeffreys speaks about getting sacked from Channel Nine’s Today show – and says her new role as Today Extra host is ‘perfect’

Sylvia Jeffreys has spoken candidly about getting sacked from Channel Nine’s Today show in 2018.

The 34-year-old told TV Week she was initially ‘frustrated’ after being kicked off the morning show but her new role as co-host of Today Extra alongside David Campbell is ‘perfect as a new mum’.

‘It can be frustrating when things aren’t going to plan. But that’s life. You just take the good with the bad,’ she said.

‘But David puts up with me showing him baby videos every morning and he does so with great enthusiasm. I couldn’t ask for a more generous co-host,’ she added.

Sylvia went on to say she doesn’t ‘miss the Today show because there is still so much news unfolding on her program’.

‘I’m delighted to be on Today Extra as it’s the perfect role as a new mum. And I know that so much of our audience is exactly where I am at in my life right now,’ she said.

Sylvia announced her departure from the Today show in December 2018, after four years at the breakfast program.

In a statement to Nine Honey at the time, Sylvia insisted she is ‘excited’ by the new challenge, having first made her debut on Today in 2014.

The news came one week after the axing of her husband, Peter Stefanovic, 38, from the Weekend Today show.

Peter was at Nine for 15 years and revealed he was leaving the network all together.

Meanwhile, Sylvia and her husband Peter recently announced they’re expecting their second child together.

They tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in 2017, and welcomed their first child, a son named Oscar in February this year.
