Candice Warner’s glamorous transformation as ‘toilet tryst’ with Sonny Bill Williams makes headlines

Candice Warner will delve into her party-girl past by reflecting on her infamous 2007 ‘toilet tryst’ with NRL star Sonny Bill Williams on SAS Australia this week.

And the former Ironwoman, 35, has certainly come a long way since she and Sonny Bill were pictured in a compromising position inside a nightclub toilet 13 years ago.

Candice, who will admit during an interrogation scene on Monday that she ‘isn’t proud’ of the scandal, spent her formative years dressing in a similarly regrettable fashion.

Thankfully, in the interweaving years, the mother of three has since blossomed into one of Australia’s most glamorous and well-heeled WAGs.

Since her encounter with Sonny Bill, Candice has bid farewell to orange spray tans and garish red carpet ensembles in favour of a more refined, elegant look.

The wife of cricketer David Warner, whose maiden name is Falzon, first stepped into the celebrity spotlight in the early 2000s, following her triumph in the NSW state Ironwoman competition at the age of 16.

In 2004, a bronzed Candice attended a swanky Virgin Atlantic event in Sydney wearing a pair of bootleg jeans and a sheer blue kaftan.

The ensemble was completed with a series of mismatched accessories, including a pair of OTT drop earrings and a brightly patterned Louis Vuitton handbag.

She also sported a pop of green eyeshadow that stood out next to her tanned complexion, and pulled her hair back into a no-frills ponytail.

Trousers were a red carpet staple for the practical dresser, who attended the Australian launch of Iceberg that same year wearing a pair of flared palazzo pants and a plunging bat-wing sleeve top.

Her brunette mane streaked with blonde highlights was tied back into a youthful half-up-half-down style for the occasion.

Despite her penchant for trousers, Candice did sport the occasional frock on the red carpet during 2004.

In April, she attended a 2Day FM party wearing a rather distinctive ensemble comprising a plunging orange mini-dress with a drop-waist and clashing red heels.  

Candice’s drop-waist fascination continued into 2005, with the sportswoman donning a frilly pink frock for the world premiere of Three Dollars in Sydney.

The number was complete with a high neckline and floppy, frilled mid-length hem.

The addition of gold accessories – including an evening bag, bangles and sandal heels – gave the outfit a costume-like air.

The drop-waist was also favoured in 2005 when Candice attended a Mercedes-Benz Australian Fashion Week event.

Despite the trendy occasion, Candice chose to wear a rather corporate look, opting for a cocoon-neck blouse, loose-fitting pleated skirt and quiff-fringe hairstyle.

Never one to stow away a good pair of shoes, she once again wore the gold sandal heels seen at the Three Dollars premiere.

The drop-waist resurfaced in 2006 at the Stars Behind Bars event in Sydney.

Her outfit consisted of a rhinestone-embellished plunge top with gathered off-shoulder detailing, paired with a wrap-around mini skirt. 

She also wore a pair of leather boots that reached her mid-calf, and a set of gold hoop earrings. 

The year 2006 also saw the beginning of Candice’s love affair with ill-advised silk kaftans.

She stormed the red carpet at the Australian Idol grand finale event wearing a leopard-print silk kaftan.

Her favourite gold-heeled sandals and quiff fringe accompanied the look.

The love of kaftans continued into 2007 at a book launch party, when Candice donned a red floaty dress with bead detailing around the bust.

The outfit was completed with the red strappy heels she wore to the 2004 2Day FM party, and the hoop earrings she donned at the Stars Behind Bars event. 

It was at the 2007 Sydney launch of footwear brand Schiavi Shoes that Candice began to embrace red carpet sophistication, with the athlete showcasing her figure in a more figure-flattering gown.

Sporting a glittery bronzed complexion, she posed confidently in a white gown with a daring plunging neckline that reached down to her stomach.

In 2008, she began to dye her hair a much lighter shade of blonde. She demonstrated this new look at the MTV Australia Awards in April.

While it’s customary for celebrities to wear daring ensembles to the MTV awards night, Candice’s ensemble appeared a little mismatched.

It was also in 2008 that Candice left the Sydney spotlight by moving to Perth.

She soon caught the eye of batsman David Warner, and was pictured on his arm wearing a bright green jumpsuit in 2013.  

With lighter hair, an ever-sophisticated Candice finished off her strapless ensemble with a studded belt and a gold bangle. 

A year later, Candice had well and truly transformed into a red-carpet-ready bombshell, having upped the fashion stakes with a glamorous white-and-gold gown at the Allan Border Medal. 

In January 2017, she once again sizzled on the Allan Border Medal blue carpet, donning a slinky silver gown that clung perfectly to her frame. 

With her gaudy gowns firmly in the past, she put on yet another stylish display in December 2018, when she attended the The Athlete’s Foot Breakfast in a chic striped shirtdress with frilly sleeves.

She kept her accessories understated, choosing to wear a pair of black velvet mules, a single bangle and a black sports watch.

Candice swept her her dark blonde mane back into a slick ponytail and enhanced her naturally flawless complexion with a light application of dewy-looking makeup.  

In November 2019, Candice went from super-athlete to supermodel as she attended Derby Day celebrations at Flemington Racecourse. 

Oozing sartorial prowess, the statuesque stunner wore a black tuxedo-inspired gown, which she teamed with a birdcage veil fascinator.

A year later, Candice dropped jaws yet again as she arrived at the Cricket Australia Awards on the arm of her husband.

She and David looked every inch the king and queen of cricket as they posed in matching monochrome outfits – with Candice sizzling in a white off-the-shoulder gown and David donning a smart white tuxedo, black pants and a matching bow tie. 

Candice and David married in 2015 and share three daughters, Ivy Mae, five, Indi Rae, four, and Isla Rose, one.
