Matthew McConaughey reveals he has ‘forgiven’ her for leaking their private conversations

Matthew McConaughey did not talk to his mother for eight years.

That is because the 50-year-old actor found out that his mom was leaking their private conversations to the media he told The Howard Stern Show on Wednesday. ‘I would have conversations and then all of a sudden—whoop—what we’d talk about would end up in the paper three days later,’ the star recalled.

The Oscar-winning star explained he had to set ‘some boundaries’ with his 88-year-old mother, Kay, to mend their relationship.

After continuously explaining their chats needed to be kept between themselves, he reached his tipping point after she gave a televised tour of his childhood home.

When Stern asked if he stopped talking to his mother after she showed off the bed where ‘he lost his virginity,’ he explained those years were ‘tough.’

After a pal called him to let him know about the interview, McConaughey phoned her and was shocked she pretended to not know what he was talking about.

Eventually, she told him: ‘Oh that, I didn’t think you’d find out.’

After Stern pointed out how difficult it must have been to see his mother for who she ‘really is,’ the Interstellar star corrected him.

‘Not for who she really is, because she was always still my mom, but she became a different person,’ he defended. ‘Look, nobody is perfect. This was something that was out of the realm of any relationship my mother has ever had.’

Over the years, he has ‘forgiven her’ and she is currently quarantining with him, his wife, Camila Alves and their children, Levi, 12, Vida, 10, and Livingston, seven.

‘It was tough for eight years, but we went through it and we’re on the other side of it. It’s good,’ he concluded, noting things between them are no longer ‘strenuous.’

Earlier this week, McConaughey’s mom posed for a sweet snap with her son holding up his new memoir, Greenlights, for her daughter-in-law’s Instagram account.
