Sydney’s White Bay is transformed into San Francisco for Nicole Kidman’s new drama series Nine Perfect Strangers

The Sydney Harbour’s White Bay has been transformed into San Francisco for Nicole Kidman’s $100 million Hulu TV series, Nine Perfect Strangers.

Set-builders have created an exact replica of The Fairmont Hotel in the bay.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the San Francisco landmark will serve as a backdrop in the series, which is largely being filmed in Byron Bay.

The production will likely have created some much-needed jobs for Aussie tradies who have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Despite the scope of the production in White Bay, it’s nothing compared to Byron Bay.

Not only is Oscar winner Nicole staying in a $20,000 a week ‘eco-mansion’ with her family, her production company has reportedly leased a whopping 60 properties in the area for cast and crew.

Set in fictionalised wellness resort ‘Tranquillum’, Nine Perfect Strangers is being partially filmed at real luxury retreat Soma Byron Bay.

‘Nicole Kidman’s show took 60 houses for six months – that’s a $100 million project, and it’s brought a lot of money and people to the area,’ he explained.

The various properties, which were not rented through Ray White, will potentially be used as sets or as accommodation for cast and crew who do not already live in the area.

Nicole has been living in Byron Bay on-and-off with her husband Keith Urban and their two daughters since filming for the show began earlier this year.

The famous family splashed out on luxury lodgings throughout their stay, renting out a Spanish-style ‘eco-mansion’ called ‘The Range’ in Coopers Shoot.

The stunning property, which is environmentally sustainable, ‘sits on 120 acres in the hinterland of Byron Bay’ and is believed to cost $20,000 a week.

Nine Perfect Strangers is based on Liane Moriarty’s bestselling novel of the same name.

The miniseries also stars Melissa McCarthy, Samara Weaving, Luke Evans, and Bobby Cannavale.

In July, Nicole told The Daily Telegraph, she’s ‘thrilled’ to be able to bring the $100 million production and hundreds of jobs to the local film industry, after it was sent crashing down by the coronavirus pandemic.
