Love Island fans outraged as Marcel blames ‘drifting apart’ on split from ex Gabby

Love Island’s Marcel Somerville sparked outrage from fans after he blamed his split from ex-girlfriend Gabby Allen on the fact they simply ‘drifted apart’.

The former couple explosively split after the former Blazing Squad singer, 31, cheated on the personal trainer, 28, while they were on holiday together.

During an appearance on Love Island: What Happened Next, Marcel told his co-star Sam Gowland that their split was ‘just one of those things’.

Marcel and Sam met up for a beer to discuss what they had been up to since leaving the third series of the show in 2017. 

Viewers were shocked by his blasé version of events, after the relationship actually ended because he was unfaithful to his former co-star. 

One fan tweeted: ‘The relationship ended because you cheated on her Marcel.’ 

While another said: ‘Marcel saying him and Gabby drifted so you didn’t cheated then cos I swear that’s why you split.’ 

A third said: ‘Not Marcel saying everything happens for a reason, when he was the one who cheated on Gabby!! On holiday!! In the hotel they were staying together!!’

Another said: ‘It just didn’t work out!!’ Hahaha you cheated. #LoveIsland.’ 

Marcel, who recently proposed to his pregnant girlfriend, confirmed that he did cheat on Gabby and admitted it’s a decision he will ‘regret forever’.

Speaking to MailOnline a spokesperson for Marcel explained at the time that he understood his wrongdoings and hopes that one day Gabby, who he met on ITV2’s Love Island, would forgive him.

His rep said: ‘Sadly the rumours are true, Gabby and Marcel have split up. Marcel can’t really defend his actions as he knows he did wrong and will regret it forever. 

‘Marcel is upset that he broke the heart of someone he loves and someone that he shared so many special moments with, but with all the good times there are difficult times, and sadly Marcel and Gabby had been in a bad place at this stage.

Adding: ‘Gabby was a special part of my Marcel’s life, and he hopes one day she can find it in herself to forgive him.

‘He knows what he did was wrong and is extremely sad about how he has hurt Gabby.’

His comments came a day after Gabby confirmed their ‘tough’ split and revealed she is ‘in shock’ from the relationship break-up.

In an Instagram post the blonde beauty thanked her friends, family and fans for their support during the difficult time as she deals with the end of her romance with hunk Marcel.

She wrote: ‘Thank you to everyone for your kind messages, love and support. It’s been tough couple of days, I think I might still be in a bit of shock! But I’m sure in time I will be OK. I have the best family and friends around me. I’m a lucky girl.’

Gabby and Marcel met on the 2017 series of summer smash Love Island and quickly forged a romance.
