‘A holiday here is literally just staring out the window’: Hamish Blake acknowledges the irony of starring in Australian tourism campaign when he lives in Melbourne which is still under strict lockdown restrictions

Hamish Blake and his wife Zoe Foster-Blake are the face of the new Holiday Here This Year tourism campaign. 

And the comedian, 38, has acknowledge that it’s a tad ironic that he and his family are in Melbourne and unable to holiday due to strict lockdown restrictions. 

Speaking on The Project on Tuesday, he said: ‘Yeah, we can. We really can [see the irony].

‘We filmed it a couple of weeks ago when we could film things and we thought things are tracking. It is a national campaign so I guess everywhere in the country is at different levels, yes.’ 

He went on to joke that for people in Melbourne, there isn’t much of a chance to enjoy a holiday at the moment.  

‘We are in lockdown, so the Victorian level of planning your perfect holiday is literally just staring out the window, just dreaming at the moment.

‘But it’s still on the horizon. We still get there. It is probably just a bit longer for Melburnians,’ he said.   

Tourism Australia has spent $7million on the  brand new campaign starring Hamish and Zoe to push people to take regional holidays.

The homegrown power couple are in lockdown in Melbourne, but are still urging travellers to book their next domestic holiday.

 Stage four restrictions have been in effect across metropolitan Melbourne since August 2, meaning five million people have been unable to leave their house, let alone take a vacation.

Hamish and Zoe said they are excited to help the tourism industry bounce back after a ‘tough year’.

‘It does feel special to be able to help promote our country because we love travelling, we love adventure, and we love Australia,’ the couple said. ‘So we can’t really think of anything that’s a better fit.’
