Emily Blunt calls Wild Mountain Thyme with Jamie Dornan ‘a strange poem of a film’ as first pics released

The first images have been released from the upcoming romantic drama Wild Mountain Thyme starring Emily Blunt and Jamie Dornan.

The two stars play neighbors in rural Ireland who become lovers and then are caught up in a land dispute over a farm.

Filmed on location in County Mayo, the movie promises gorgeous scenery and stellar performances.

The Irish love story is written and directed by John Patrick Shanley and is based on his stage play Outside Mullingar.

The play debuted on Broadway in January 2014 starring Debra Messing and Brían F. O’Byrne and received a Tony Award nomination for best play. 

The film’s cast is rounded out by Christopher Walken and Jon Hamm.

Wild Mountain Thyme is slated to be released in theatres and digitally on demand on December 11th.

It marks the first time that Blunt and Dornan have worked together and in a recent interview with People, Blunt gushed about the experience. 

‘I was so thrilled to work with him,’ she said. ‘And we were both just so taken with this script and I remember talking about it, like why we were both so bewitched by it. It’s the most beautiful, eccentric, strange poem of a film.’

Northern Ireland-born actor Dornan is sticking with his Irish roots on his next project too.

The Fifty Shades star is filming Belfast for director Kenneth Branagh and the movie is being shot partly in Belfast and partly in England.

Billed as a semi-autobiographical drama by Branagh, it centers on a young boy growing up in Belfast in the late 1960s and co-stars Judi Dench and Caitriona Balfe. 

Meanwhile, Blunt has two more films in the can with releases scheduled for next year.

She reunites with her husband John Krasinski in A Quiet Place Pt II, now pushed to April due to the pandemic, and Disney’s Jungle Cruise with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, slated for a July release.
