Cate Blanchett’s former Hunters Hill mansion returns to market for $20m 

Cate Blanchett’s former home has returned to the market, three years after it sold for $18million.

Despite the COVID-19 recession having an impact on the Sydney housing market, the sprawling Hunters Hill mansion is expected to fetch between $20-$22million, according to Domain.

The historic home, named Bulwarra – which the 51-year-old actress owned with playwright husband Andrew Upton – previously sold in January 2017 to Katrina Chandler, the wife of former Goldman Sachs partner Chris Barter.

The mansion boasts luxurious interiors and open-plan living, with a focus on bringing the outdoors indoors.

The spacious property has five bedrooms, including a stunning master wing complete with an en-suite and walk-in wardrobe.

The 1877 Gothic sandstone architecture is accompanied by expansive views of the city courtesy of a rooftop pool.

While it still maintains some of is historical charm, the 3,642-square-metre home has had a modern indoor makeover, which includes a three-storey staircase, feature walls and a stainless steel kitchen.

Outside, there are a number of lilac Jacaranda trees and a tennis court.

Following the work on the property by the environmentally conscious couple, it’s also understood to have made the mansion one of the most eco-friendly in the country.

The waterfront property was first bought by Cate and Andrew back in 2005 for $10.2 million, but has since had extensive renovations.

It’s said the superstar couple bought the property after looking at 20 other mansions across the eastern suburbs and lower north shore.

After the pair sold it in 2017, it was put up for lease for $10,000 a week.

Cate, 51, and her husband Andrew, 54, and their four children, sons Dashiell, 18, Ignatius, 12, Roman, 16 and daughter, Edith, 5, are now based in the UK. 

The family have one property remaining in Sydney, an Elizabeth Bay waterfront apartment they purchased in 2013, for $1.92 million.
