Britain’s Got Talent: Ant and Dec share behind scenes look at script-writing session before final

Ant and Dec share behind the scenes look at their mega script-writing session before the BGT final

Their natural wit and warm-hearted style has seen them win a total of 18 Best Entertainment Presenter National Television Awards.

And Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly gave an insight into how much work goes into their presenting routines, as they took to their Instagram story to share a snap of themselves working on the Britain’s Got Talent script for Saturday’s final.

Proving that there is always graft behind the glamour, the image shows the duo dressed-down back stage, with Ant, 44, in a black hoodie and Dec, 45, in a grey sweater.

Grafting: Ant and Dec proved that Britain’s Got Talent was not all glitz and glamour on Saturday, as they shared this snap of themselves working on the show’s script

The duo captioned the post ‘Script meeting for the @BGT final!’, as they are shown, mid-meeting, holding up their scripts for the night as they continue to perfect their lines.

The scene is a world away from the glamour of the BGT stage, with the Geordie pair  sat around a drab wooden table in a room lit by bright white fluorescent lights.

Showing just how seriously show-runners were taking the Covid-19 threat, the duo are seen wearing face-masks, while a bottle of hand sanitiser is place prominently on the table.

It is not the only content that the duo have posted of their preparations for the talent show: they have also shared a hilarious video of themselves getting their regular Covid-19 test.

The TV presenters, who are gearing up to host the new series of I’m A Celebrity, have to get tested every few days so they can be in close proximity to each other.

In the video, Ant told viewers: ‘Hey everyone. Every four days we have to get a Covid test so we can sit next to each other, don’t we Declan?’

The video then showed Dec getting his mouth swabbed as Ant can be heard in the background saying: ‘Deeper’

Dec started laughing and Ant added: ‘Tickle his brain! Oh, he doesn’t like that.’

After his test was over, Dec swore to never have it done with Ant again, saying: ‘That was the most uncomfortable test I’ve ever had. We shall do them individually from here on in.’

2020’s edition of Britain’s Got Talent was won by 46-year-old musical comic Jon Courtenay, who scooped up a whopping 33.7 per cent of the public vote.

He was in fact that final act to perform on the show, singing a humourous-yet-poignant song reflecting on the year’s events.

This left judge Alesha Dixon in tears, commenting afterwards that it was a ‘perfect’ way to sum up a year that everyone has found difficult.

BGT 2020 was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic during the spring, when it usually broadcasts auditions and the live finals prior to the summer.

But ITV made sure it returned this autumn to complete the contest.

The audience was replaced with a virtual audience, allowing the arena atmosphere to be prominent in line with the strict COVID-19 rules that continue to be in place.
