Benedict will reportedly don his cloak of levitation to play the supernatural hero Doctor Strange in currently titled Spiderman 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It’s thought he’ll continue the trend of acting as a mentor to young Peter Parker, following Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jnr.) in the first film and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) in the second.

The film is due to begin filming in Atlanta later this month, and it remains to be seen how Benedict will produce his scenes while working on the Multiverse of Madness, which is due to begin production in London at the same time.

MailOnline has contacted representatives for Sony Pictures, Benedict Cumberbatch and Disney for comment.
