Kat Von D reveals she was ‘locked up’ at 15 at same ‘torturous’ boarding school as Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton recently revealed how she’d been traumatized by her time at a boarding school for troubled teens in Utah.

And on Monday, Kat Von D shared on social media that she, too, had experienced the same ‘tortuous’ treatment at Provo Canyon School when she was sent there at 15.

The tattoo artist, 38, recalled the abuse, which she likened to being ‘kidnapped and locked up in an institution’, and its lasting effects in a lengthy video on Instagram.

In the caption alongside the video, she explained that she was inspired by Paris’s film to share her own story of what happened to her at the school.

She claimed to have been ‘locked up for half a year, without ever seeing he sun’ and that she had left the school suffering from ‘major PTSD and other traumas’.

Kat also berated ‘the ‘Troubled Teen’ industry, and the damage it causes to not just the kids, but the families.’

Since being put in the spotlight by the This Is Paris film, Provo Canyon School which continues to operate residential treatment facilities for teens, has posted a statement on its website.

It reads: ‘Please note that PCS was sold by its previous ownership in August 2000. We therefore cannot comment on the operations or patient experience prior to that time. We are committed to providing high-quality care to youth with special, and often complex, emotional, behavioral and psychiatric needs.’

Kat Von D explains in her video that she was sent to the boarding school at 15 and turned 16 during her time there.

Like Paris, she recalled being woken up in her bed in the middle of the night and forcefully transported to the institution.

‘I was sleeping… and the door opens and there are these two big dudes and a pretty athletic-built woman standing at the door telling me to calm down and to get dressed and that we would be leaving,’ she recounted. ‘And if I didn’t do what they say I would have to choose the hard way, which was getting handcuffed.’

She claimed she was ‘blindfolded’ and ‘strip searched’ and described the school as a ‘pretty crazy, torturous awful place’.

Describing it as ‘definitely the most traumatic 6 months of my life’, she said she had witnessed physical and sexual abuse and said students who ‘acted out’ would be confined to a bare room sedated and in a strait jacket.

Upon her release, she said she started ‘drinking bottles and bottles of whiskey’ as a way to cope with her trauma and blames it for her subsequent history of addiction.

The LA Ink reality star revealed she had never told her parents about what she went through ‘because it wasn’t their fault.’

Hilton’s This Is Paris documentary premiered on YouTube last month.

In it, she recalls how her parents had her taken by two men from her bedroom and sent off to a camp for troubled youth when she was 16.

She said she ran away from several camps before landing at Provo Canyon School where she claimed she was beaten, drugged and sent to solitary confinement. She was there for 11 months, only leaving when she turned 18.

She shared that she is still traumatized by what happened to her and often breaks down and cries as well as having regular nightmares which has led to crippling insomnia.
