Casey ‘Quigley’ Goode reveals she is in ‘total shock’ after her newborn tests positive for COVID-19

American Idol alum Casey ‘Quigley’ Goode and her two-week-old son, Maximillian, are in the pediatric ICU, after her newborn contracted COVID-19. 

The 32-year-old performer, who welcomed her baby boy with her husband Jack Poticorn in late September, revealed she has been in a state of ‘total shock’ after her infant started exhibiting synonyms. 

‘Max tested positive for COVID-19 early Saturday,’ the Los Angeles-based musician, who goes by the stage name Quigley, told her more 282,000 Instagram followers on Sunday.

She continued: ‘We took him into the ER after he was running a fever in the middle of the night. We had confirmation that he was exposed from direct contact with a medical professional who had cared for him earlier in the week.’ 

While noting the diagnosis was a ‘shock’ to her and Poticorn, she is ‘currently quarantining with baby Max in the PICU’ and being treated for the virus, as well. 

‘They are treating me as if I have been exposed and are likely positive as well, although I am showing no symptoms yet,’ she told her fans, who sent their support.  

‘Please send good energy to our little bub so he recovers fast. Not sure what happens next from here… but I expect to be offline for a while as we recover,’ the active social media user concluded in her update. 

In a heart-wrenching video on her Instagram Story, Quigley choked up and cried as she announced her son’s positive coronavirus test. 

After sitting in the emergency room for seven hours, she said they told her the news, after she brought him to the hospital ‘in the middle of the night’ for a fever  

‘I’m here by myself and am trying really hard to stay strong for him,’ she said with tears in her eyes. ‘But, I don’t know what’s going to happen.’ 

Then, she shared footage of her little man, who was wrapped up in a white blanket with an orange elephant pattern.

‘Sunday update: his fever has broken, but he has to be on oxygen for a while today,’ the new mom captioned another recording.  

Quigley’s husband also took to his Instagram to notify fans his son is ‘doing well’ and ‘there’s a chance’ the infant and his wife will be ‘discharged tomorrow.’

‘Max is doing very well, he’s on oxygen as kind of a precautionary measure, his fever is down and they’re talking about discharging him to quarantine at home tomorrow,’ the first-time father said in a video. 

The family’s coronavirus diagnosis comes just two weeks after Quigley chronicled her complicated labor experience on social media. 

According to one of her posts on September 22, she went into labor at ’37 weeks exactly,’ as she and Alex were leaving their ‘babymoon’ in Ojai, California. 

‘As we were making the drive back, I got some alarming blood work results back stating that I had a condition called cholestasis that put me and baby at risk. We decided to labor at home for a while to see if I could still have my planned home birth but baby’s movements stopped so we decided to go to the hospital,’ she revealed.

At the hospital, it was discovered she had preeclampsia and her ‘blood pressure was skyrocketing,’ so she was put on ‘IV of magnesium to prevent’ to her from seizing. 

‘I labored for under 12 hours and pushed for about 30 minutes before baby’s heart rate dropped quite low wouldn’t come back up,’ the singer recalled. ‘My OB got into the room and immediately had to vaccum him out,’ she continued of the harrowing ordeal. 

She added: ‘It got really scary at the end as he wasn’t crying or moving much when he came out. They took him for some tests and I only got to see him for about three seconds before he went to the NICU.’

After a few days in the NICU, they were able to bring their child home for the first time last week.
