Australian Idol duo Osher Günsberg and James Mathison reunite for Channel 10 comedy series

It’s been 12 years since Osher Günsberg (formerly known as Andrew G) and James Mathison hosted Australian Idol on Channel 10 together.

Now the duo, more than a decade on, will return to the network’s prime-time slot as acting co-stars. 

This month, Osher and James’ episode – believed to have been filmed in 2018 – of Drunk History Australia will finally debut on free-to-air.

James and Osher reenact the disastrous expedition – as told by the slightly-buzzed comedian and storyteller Harley Breen – of Burke and Wills.

Osher told TV Week on Monday that he and James have remained in close contact since debuting as co-hosts of Australian Idol in 2003.

‘He comes to poker every now and then,’ he claimed, but said reuniting on screen was ‘the greatest’.

Osher even praised James’ incredible acting, claiming he could have a career as a sitcom star if he wanted to pursue it. 

Ten actually released the entire first season of Drunk History Australia on 10 Play for audiences to binge while social distancing in March.

The comedy series first aired during Pilot Week in 2018, but wasn’t renewed with the other successful pilot week shows that year.

However, Ten later announced the show had been commissioned.

In March, former Bachelor ‘winner’ Alex Nation shared production photos from her episode as the first Miss Australia, Beryl Mills.

She wrote at the time: ‘Ya’ll thought my 15 minutes of fame was over.. WRONGO. Catch me on Drunk History on @10playau.’    

Comedian Nikki Osborne recalls the tale in Alex’s episode, with Gogglebox star Yvie Jones also making a cameo appearance.

The show is set to kick off on Channel 10 on Monday, September 14, but all season one episodes are still readily available to stream on demand on 10Play.
