‘It would have snapped my neck’: Australian actor Glenn Robbins reveals the TV stunt that went horribly wrong and could have killed him

Australian actor and comedian Glenn Robbins has revealed that he almost died during a TV stunt that went horribly wrong in the early nineties.

The actor, who is known for shows including Kath & Kim, told News.com.au at the weekend that he was filming a segment for Tonight Live With Steve Vizard when he had a brush with death.

The 62-year-old explained the incident occurred when he was up in an ultralight plane near Blenheim Palace in the UK, while a cameraman flew beside him for a pre-recorded cross.

‘The joke I was doing was where Steve would ask, “where are you?” and I’d pull out a map and the joke was going to be that the map blew out of my hands and I’d say, “well, I don’t know where I am now!” he told the publication.

But as soon Glenn finished his skit, the pilot informed him they were ‘in trouble’ and needed to make an ’emergency landing.’

‘I thought, “I know what’s happened, the map’s blown into the blade and it’s going to stuff the engine,” he said, adding they landed ‘hard’ in a paddock.

Once they were safe on the ground, the father-of-two discovered much to his horror that it wasn’t his map which had got caught in the propeller – but his scarf.

‘If the propeller had taken the other end of the scarf, it just would have knotted and snapped my neck!’ he said.

For his latest project, Glenn has teamed up with fellow comedian Dave O’Neil to co-host a podcast called Somehow Related.

During each episode, the pair will be given two seemingly random topics and must work out how they are ‘related’ to each other.

Glenn is also the actor behind iconic Australian adventurer Russell Coight and has starred in Prisoner, Fast Forward and Full Frontal.

Glenn revealed on Monday, while speaking to Hit FM’s Hughesy & Ed, the he’d been offered the role of Fat Amy’s father in Pitch Perfect 3 but turned it down as he was already committed to filming Russell Coight’s All Aussie Adventures at the time

Pitch Perfect 3, released in December 2017, was a box office hit just like the previous two films, and went on to gross more than $183million.

Fat Amy was played by fellow Aussie, Rebel Wilson.
