India sees a record 77,000 new Covid-19 infections with the country now suffering the highest single-day caseload in the world every day for three weeks
- India recorded 77,226 new cases and 1,057 deaths from coronavirus on Friday
- Total number of cases since pandemic started has risen to more than 3.38million
- India has had highest single-day caseload in the world every day since August 7
India has seen a record 77,226 new coronavirus infections in just 24 hours with the country suffering the highest single-day caseload in the world every day for three weeks.
India has now recorded a total of more than 3.38 million cases since the start of the pandemic with 46 per cent of infections detected in August alone.
The country also reported 1,057 new deaths, the Health Ministry said earlier today, taking the total to 61,529.
The figures show that India has been recording more than 60,000 new daily infections since August 7 – the highest single-day caseload in the world every day for three weeks.

India’s previous highest daily count was 75,760 recorded on Wednesday.
The Health Ministry has said that it is carrying out up to 900,000 Covid-19 tests every day with the cumulative number reaching 39 million on Thursday.
India now has the third-highest coronavirus caseload after the United States and Brazil – as well as the fourth-highest Covid-19 deaths behind Mexico.
Four of India’s 28 states – Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka -are the worst-hit regions.

Between them they account for 63.8 per cent of fatalities and 54 per cent of active cases.
But the pandemic is creating new hot spots for infections including rural areas of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar states in the north.
The latest figures mean that the worldwide coronavirus caseload stands at more than 24.4 million with a death toll of at least 828,000.
