A crystal handbag that belonged to Princess Diana has sold for almost £10,000 in the US. 

Diana donated the bag to a charity auction to help the homeless in February 1997, six months before her death.

Inside was a note she wrote to a woman called Angela who organised the event.

The crystal handbag that belonged to Princess Diana has sold for almost £10,000 in the US at an auction in Los Angeles

The crystal handbag that belonged to Princess Diana has sold for almost £10,000 in the US at an auction in Los Angeles

It reads: ‘Dearest Angela… I wish you success with your charity dinner and auction. 

‘I have sent a few things for you to add in the hope they might help with the proceeds. With love, Diana x.’

The 5.5in by 8.5in bag was one of a number of Diana’s possessions that were sold at Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles.

A small prayer book given to Diana by her grandmother in 1973 fetched £10,600. 

Other items included a white and gold bangle that sold for £3,650 and a signed copy of the 1997 charity auction catalogue, which went for £3,000.
