The Weeknd is up for a total of six nominations at the MTV Video Music Awards, which is set to air live on August 30 at 8 p.m. ET.
And on Tuesday, the three-time Grammy winner, 29, turned heads on his way to rehearse for the annual fan-voted awards show in a face full of bloody makeup and fake bruises.
Fans of the singer will recognize the battered look and red blazer from his short film, After Hours, and fourth studio album of the same name, both released in March.

As he appeared in the same black shirt-and-tie combo since his latest album’s first video for the single Heartless, he could be seen exiting NYC hotel in a pair of black gloves.
His outing comes after opening up about his past high-profile relationships over the years, which have included Selena Gomez and Bella Hadid, earlier this week in an interview for Esquire’s September 2020 issue.
The Weeknd (born Abel Tesfaye), expanded on the writing process of his 2018 EP My Dear Melancholy, which is widely speculated to be about Gomez, who he dated from January 2017 to October 2017.
‘The reason why it was so short is like, I think I just had nothing else to say on this…whatever,’ he told the outlet. ‘It was just like this cathartic piece of art. And yeah, it was short, because that’s all I had to say on this situation.’

When asked if making the track made him feel better, the performer answered confirmed it did, but declined ‘almost apologetically’ to answer who any of the songs were about.
Shortly after his split from the Rare hitmaker, he rekindled his on-again/off-again romance with Hadid, before then calling it quits again.
Most recently the Vogue supermodel and Starboy crooner, who split in August 2019, started talking again in June.
‘Bella and The Weeknd have been in touch recently,’ a source told Us Weekly of the lovebirds.

But by November 2016, soon after she modeled at and he sang for the Victoria’s Secret fashion show in Paris, they had already broken up.
