Carjackers stole a white Range Rover and a stabbed a man in the leg in a shocking broad daylight attack outside a church in east London.

The victim, a man in his mid-20s, had arranged to meet a group of men in Athlone Close, Hackney, on Tuesday evening to sell the vehicle.

However, when two of the gang got in the back seat of the car, a fight broke out and the thieves made off with the Range Rover.

The victim, who had turned up to the meeting with another man, was stabbed in the leg in the process and taken to hospital but has since been discharged.

At least two police cars, three police officers, and paramedics in an ambulance arrived at the scene which had been sealed off by police tape.

The Met Police said today no arrests have been made as the hunt for the carjackers continues.

A spokesman said: ‘Detectives are investigating after a man was stabbed in Hackney.

‘The incident happened at around 19:10hrs on Tuesday, 25 August.

‘Two men had driven from to Athlone Close, E5 where they had arranged to buy car through an intermediary.

‘At the scene they met a group of men and two of these men got in the back seat of their car.

‘An altercation then took place and their car was stolen.

‘One of the original occupants was uninjured, but the other was stabbed in the leg.

‘Their car, a white Range Rover, was driven off from the scene by the suspects.

‘The injured victim, a man in his mid-20s, was treated in hospital and has since been discharged.

‘Police are keen to trace the stolen Range Rover, which is likely to have distinctive damage.

‘There have been no arrests.
