The Block stars Jade and Daniel discuss the moment they experienced every parent’s worst nightmare

They are currently facing one of TV’s toughest challenges as they compete on The Block. 

But for couple Jade, 34, and Daniel, 35, it doesn’t come close to the horrifying moment they experienced every parent’s worst nightmare. 

In an interview with TV Week on Thursday, the couple recalled the time that Jade went to check on their then 18-month daughter Isla and she wasn’t breathing.  

‘She was lifeless,’ recalled Jade. 

‘She looked like she wasn’t breathing… she was white, ghost-like and very clammy and wet. I just screamed out for Daniel.’ 

The South Australian-based couple quickly rushed Isla into the car and made the terrifying trip into the town of Port Pirie. 

‘About half way in to town she was turning blue and her eyes were rolling back into her head,’ Jade added.  

Once there Isla was airlifted to Adelaide Children’s Hospital where the medical staff saved her life. 

Isla, six, who had suffered from health problems since birth was then diagnosed with the chromosomal disorder, Trisomy 5p. 

The rare condition is a result of chromosome 5 appearing three times rather than twice in the cells of the body, and it may cause abnormalities such as low muscle tone or heart conditions. 

On the show, the couple explained that Isla was one of the reasons they applied for the Channel Nine Reno show. 

‘Isla goes to speech classes, occupational therapy, and physio weekly,’ Jade said.

‘We applied because just a little bit of financial support can help Daniel be around just a little bit more often. We can be a family and help each other, and Isla can get any extra help she needs.’
