Gogglebox’s Matty Fahd admits it was ‘hard work’ trying to convince his now-wife Sarah Marie to date him – and says their courtship was ‘no fairytale’
Gogglebox star Matty Fahd has revealed how he finally won over his wife, Sarah Marie, after spending months trying to convince her to go on a date with him.
Speaking on The Adam & Symon Show, the reality star said the couple’s ‘love story wasn’t a fairytale’ and Sarah, 33, had initially played ‘hard to get’.
‘I had tried for a very long time and she was playing hard to get. And when she finally agreed to come to dinner with me, she cancelled because she was nervous,’ he said.

‘As a guy, you don’t really know why, and I’m thinking I’m this short Lebanese guy and she’s an absolute bombshell… I’ve got no chance with this chick.’
Matty said that Sarah eventually contacted him to reorganise their first date and the pair went out to dinner.
‘She was living at her dad’s place in western Sydney, about 45 minutes from where I was living at the time. I had to pick her up, we drove back to the city, had dinner, then we drove to this lookout in Balmain and we just sat there and talked until 4am,’ he said.
‘From that point we started texting every day, but she got a bit more distant [over time] and I started sensing something was wrong.’

He asked Sarah whether he had upset her and she told him: ‘Yes you did. Since our date you rarely pick up the phone to call me. You only text me on Friday and Saturday and your Instagram is full of girls.’
Matty said he apologised for this and invited Sarah to a New Year’s Eve party he was hosting with his friend (and future Gogglebox co-star) Jad Nehmetallah, but she declined his invitation.
He then contacted her on January 2, but Sarah revealed she had started dating another man she’d met.

‘That weekend I went to dinner with a girl friend of mine who is a mate and she had just come out of a relationship, and she was telling me what’s happening with her ex and that he’s a bit crazy but she hasn’t heard from him a while,’ he continued.
‘We keep eating dinner and she said, “I want to show you a photo of the girl my ex is seeing.” She pulls out her phone and shows me a photo of her ex and Sarah.’
He said he immediately called Sarah and warned her about dating this man, and two weeks later he received a message from her saying the pair had ended things.
‘Valentine’s Day was our second date and we had our first kiss was that night… It was no fairytale, it was hard work,’ Matty said.
The couple went on to marry in 2018 after four years of dating, and they welcomed their first child, a son named Malik, in November last year.
