Britney Spears is said to have been eager for father Jamie Spears to step down as her conservator and relinquish control over her personal life, because he ‘treats her like a child’ according to a new report.
The pop singer’s controversial conservatorship will now be in place until at least February 2021, after she failed to remove Jamie, 68, from controlling her business and personal affairs last week.
‘She dreams about the conservatorship ending, but this doesn’t seem realistic,’ a source has told PEOPLE Magazine. ‘She needs to be surrounded by people who look out for her.’

It was revealed this week that Britney’s sister Jamie Lynn Spears was named as a trustee for the singer’s fortune two years ago, signalling a shift in control over her assets, which has previously been dominated by Jamie.
Meanwhile the source adds that Britney ‘still wants the conservatorship to end at some point’ but adds: ‘more urgently right now she doesn’t want her dad to regain the sole conservator role.’
According to her court filing, Britney stated that she ‘strongly prefers’ licensed conservator Jodi Montgomery who stepped in for Jamie last September when he was ill.

And the source adds to the publication that the reason Britney prefers Jodi is that her father Jamie is ‘very old school’ and ‘he treats Britney like a child.’
‘Britney wants someone who is respectful and considerate to be in charge of her conservatorship,’ the source continues.
‘Someone from the outside who is not her family. Someone who will treat her like an adult and listen to her. She will never have this relationship with Jamie.’
Last year, Britney’s ex-husband Kevin Federline accused her father Jamie of laying hands on their 14-year-old son Sean Preston during an altercation at home.
Police investigated the allegations involving child abuse and found ‘insufficient proof’ to make any charges.
However, Kevin obtained a restraining order against his former father-in-law which prohibits Jamie from coming near Sean or his brother Jayden James, 13, for three years.

Britney filed papers in Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this month asking the court to end her father Jamie’s conservatorship which essentially gives him control of her finances and career decisions.
He has been his daughter’s legal guardian since her very public meltdown 12 years ago – an arrangement the superstar’s loyal fans have blasted in the #FreeBritney movement, claiming she is being manipulated and controlled.
Due to health reasons, Jamie was forced to temporarily hand over the reins last year to Jodi Montgomery, who was already working as Britney’s care manager meaning she assesses the star’s needs and works with healthcare professionals to help her get the right treatment.

However, the star failed to remove her dad from controlling her business and personal affairs last Wednesday after the court made no immediate changes to the conservatorship.
The closed door court hearing extended the current arrangements until February 2021, according to a court document posted online by fans.
A report by TMZ claimed that Britney – who is thought to be worth around $58 million – has been declared unable to make important life decisions due to her mental illness and has been unwell for more than a year.
This means her need for a conservatorship could impact any decision to allow her to break free from her father’s powers.
