Bert Newton goes mask-free as he visits his daughter Lauren in coronavirus-stricken Melbourne after she returned home with her newborn son Alby

Bert Newton wasn’t wearing a mandatory face mask as he stepped out in Melbourne on Tuesday. 

The Australian media personality was spotted arriving to his daughter Lauren’s home without a face covering on. 

The 82-year-old wore black pants, a buttoned shirt and blue jumper as he visited his daughter, one day after she returned home from hospital with her newborn son Alby.

He completed his ensemble with a pair of black shoes and wore glasses.

Daily Mail does not suggest Bert is acting in breach of the mandatory rules as he is likely to have a medical exemption. 

Bert Newton has been contacted for comment.

Last month, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews made face masks mandatory in public spaces across Melbourne and Mitchell Shire in a bid to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The mask rule was enforced across the state of Victoria on Monday, August 3.

People who do not wear masks in public face fines of $200, unless they have been granted an exemption. 

A face covering is not required under some circumstances including a person who is affected by a medical condition, person for whom wearing a face mask would create a risk to their health and when doing any activity where you are out of breath.

Melburnian’s also cannot have visitors unless it is to deliver care and essential services.

Meanwhile, Lauren finally returned home from hospital after 80 nights on Tuesday, after suffering complications during her sixth pregnancy.

‘So wonderful to be home after 80 nights in hospital,’ Lauren wrote on Instagram.  

‘Hard to leave Alby but he is in wonderful hands. Thanks to the special care nursery and his amazing pediatrician. We love you Alby,’ she finished.

Lauren and Matt welcomed their son Alby last Thursday and announced the happy news on Friday.
