‘It wasn’t nice… I was very lucky’: Kirsty Gallacher reveals she contracted COVID-19 in March

Kirsty Gallacher has revealed she contracted COVID-19 in March.

The presenter, 44, revealed her battle with the infection during an appearance on Tuesday’s episode of Lorraine.

She said: ‘I was [quite ill], I caught it late March and I had a moderate bout. I did speak to a GP. It wasn’t nice. I was very lucky because I wasn’t so bad that I needed to be hospitalised.

‘It lasted quite a while and actually, I think there are some lasting effects. I know someone who had it in May and still hasn’t got their sense of smell or taste back and that’s just awful. It’s quite scary isn’t it?’

The star continued: ‘Having the virus was a shock but being able to rest and not having to do anything was good.

‘It makes you think. It’s extremely sad, what is happening and it’s scary to think of what’s to come.

‘My children have been brilliant. They’re looking forward to getting back to some kind of normality, school, we hope.’

In July Kirsty told OK! Magazine: ‘Yes, I caught the coronavirus and I was really unwell just as we were going into lockdown.

‘I was wiped out for a good month and felt very anxious. It’s such a lonely illness when you’re having to stay apart from your children.’

Kirsty recently spoke about how she has been keeping herself busy during the pandemic with exercise.

During the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the TV presenter had eased off the pedal in regards to her workouts, but she has returned with a vengeance as she strives to become her strongest self.

She said on Instagram earlier this month: ‘I know it’s a bit of a cliché but that saying ‘you’ll never regret a training session’ really rings home for me.

‘Of course often I don’t feel up to it or I’m rushing around and don’t really have the time but every session counts and they all add up.

‘I didn’t feel my best a few months ago, for a few reasons, I’d just moved house and then lockdown happened and so naturally I didn’t prioritise training, but after months of hard word I feel like I’m getting back to my strongest.

‘For anyone thinking about weight training, do it! As much for your mind as for your body, you won’t regret it.’

Kirsty was married to former England Rugby Union international Paul Sampson from 2010 to 2015.

Following their divorce, Kirsty branded her marriage to Paul ‘the worst investment she has ever made’ because of the toll it took on her finances.
