Speaking in a Facebook video, that has since been deleted, Mr Doherty said: ‘He got mugged for his watch and a ring, a diamond ring and a watch, but they couldn’t get the ring off his finger as his fingers had swelled.

‘But they got his watch which you can always replace. You can always replace value, anything that has value you can replace, but you can’t replace life.’

He continued: ‘We thought I was going to lose my son. I give thanks and prayers to God, thanks God, for not taking my son. I am lucky to have my son back.’

‘Life is so short, enjoy it while you can.

‘Thank god, my Jesus, he was bleeding on the brain in three places, but he’s great now, thank God and I give thanks and prayers to God.’

The former bare-knuckle boxer expressed his disbelief over the attack saying ‘isn’t it a shame when you can’t wear jewellery’.
