Controversial radio host Kyle Sandilands has unveiled a dramatic plan to ensure the Melbourne Cup takes place in Sydney this year.
He revealed on The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Monday that he was speaking to contacts and ‘working extremely hard behind the scenes’ to make it happen.
‘That’s what happens in this country. When someone’s down, we sink the boot in,’ the the 49-year-old millionaire said, in a blunt reference to Victoria’s COVID-19 outbreak.

Kyle, who is considered one of the most influential men in Sydney, noted that Melbourne had already been forced to move its AFL games interstate due to the statewide lockdown.
‘Well we are [Sydney] just going to take everything off them,’ he said.
His co-host Jackie O Henderson objected, insisting it would make Melburnians hate Sydneysiders ‘even more’ than they already do.
‘Yeah, because they’re jealous!’ Kyle replied.

First held in 1861, the Melbourne cup is Australia’s most famous and lucrative horse race. It takes place on the first Tuesday in November.
Last year’s event provided a $447.6 million gross economic event to the state, according to Victoria Racing Club.

Kyle’s plan to shift the event to Sydney would be a massive blow to a state economy already crippled by the coronavirus crisis.
Victoria recorded another 208 cases of coronavirus on Sunday, and 17 more deaths.
The national death toll is now 502.
