A source told The Sun: ‘Caroline was loved by all on Strictly and was a hugely popular winner among the executives and the crew.

‘She was a bundle of energy and they thought if they were going to look at some of the best finals ever it would be fitting to feature her in a big way.

‘She’s sorely missed by many, but particularly by her Strictly family.’

She went onto reprise the routine in the grand final, and it proved to be her winning performance as it was her last before being crowned a champion alongside Pasha.

The show, hosted by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, will also look at other finalists during its 16-year history.

The former Love Island presenter was laid to rest on March 10, after she was found dead in her north-east London home on February 15 at the age of 40.

Caroline had pleaded not guilty to assaulting her boyfriend Lewis Burton at her former £1.1million home in North London, in a court hearing in December.

Strictly Come Dancing released a statement paying tribute to Caroline following her death, saying: ‘The entire Strictly Come Dancing family are heartbroken to hear this incredibly sad news.

‘Caroline had an infectious energy and passion for dance, she shone brightly in the Strictly ballroom every week and became an incredible champion.

‘Words cannot express out sadness, she was simply one of a kind. We are sending our love to all her family and friends during this difficult time.’
