Holland Taylor recalls being ‘irritated’ with partner Sarah Paulson when they first met

They have been going strong since 2015.

But when Holland Taylor first met Sarah Paulson, 45, in 2005 there weren’t immediate fireworks, she told People on Wednesday.

The 77-year-old actress recalled that when meeting at a dinner party, ten years before starting their romance, she was initially ‘irritated’ by the American Horror Story actress.

Slow start: Holland Taylor recalled that when first meeting her now partner Sarah Paulson at a dinner party in 2005 she was initially ‘irritated’ by the American Horror Story actress, she told People on Wednesday

‘I already knew a lot about her because I’d seen her in a bunch of things,’ Taylor said. ‘She was one of those up-and-coming stars who was a real head-turner.’

Adding: ‘Her talent was just very striking, and she was so fabulous-looking. Then I was seated next to her.’

The Legally Blonde actress recalled being ‘irritated’ with Paulson after being seated next to each other and wondering if they would have anything in common.

‘I remember thinking, “Here is this irritating girl, this irritating cooly-cool girl. A young star who’s such a big deal, who’s just going to start spouting off everything she knows about everything, like all young people do,”‘ she said.

While their 33 year age difference hasn’t stopped their romance, back in 2005, Taylor saw it as a roadblock even to conversation.

‘I’m just this old person and we’ll have nothing to say to each other,’ she said and remembered even asking Paulson, who was then 31, ‘You’re how old?’

Taylor added: ‘Because it was, like, she was so much younger than I was. I thought we’d have nothing in common.’

Ten years later, Paulson responded to one of her tweets and the two started chatting, having been together ever since.

Early thoughts: 'I’m just this old person and we’ll have nothing to say to each other,' she said and remembered even asking Paulson, who was then 31, 'You’re how old?'

‘Of course, the fact is you don’t have to have anything in common with a person to fall in love with them,’ Taylor now says. ‘Those are not the things that matter.’

Though the two may still have their differences she said it hasn’t stopped them from loving each other.

‘It’s just something that happens, even when people who are very opposite and even though they don’t agree with each other on a lot of things, can still love each other,’ she added. ‘What makes love happen between people is completely ineffable. You can never predict it, but it can’t be denied.’

They have been spending even more time together as the have been isolating with each other amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘Of course, Sarah and I didn’t need to be brought closer together. We have a very tight, close relationship within each other’s thoughts,’ Taylor said. We share everything that’s going on.’

Both actresses are used to working and traveling consistently so the halting of Hollywood productions has caused them to slow down.

‘It’s been wild to be still for a while, we are fortunate,’ Taylor, who most recently starred in Netflix’s To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before sequel this year, said. ‘Both of us normally have to travel for work, have constantly been filming, always leaving a bag halfway packed in the foyer at our house.’

‘We all stayed six feet apart outside and just shared our gratitude at all we have and that we got to see each other,’ she said. ‘Sandy Bullock is an extraordinary person. She is a very, very, big person, a very serious-minded person. And also as fun as a basket full of puppies when she wants to be.’
