Jessica Mauboy has postponed her wedding to fiancé Themeli Magripilis due to COVID-19

Jessica Mauboy got engaged to her long-term boyfriend Themeli Magripilis during a romantic trip to Greece, last year.

But on Monday, the bride-to-be revealed she’s been forced to postpone her wedding plans due the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking on Nova’s 96.9’s Fitzy & Wippa, the 31-year-old singer said: ‘I’ve been able to have that opportunity to witness everyone’s else unfortunate pathway with putting a wedding together this year and it’s just so sad and it’s so hard.’

‘So I’m going to leave it for some time, it really is about rebuilding people and giving back to people [at the moment],’ she added.

Jessica also revealed she is planning to perform one of her famous songs on her big day. 

She said: ‘I was considering doing Just Like You from my current record or a little bit of a throwback with Fallin.’

The singer confirmed her engagement to Themeli, who she’s been dating for more than a decade, in October last year.

‘The love of my life proposed to me in his family’s home town of Kalymnos, Greece, on the beach at sunset,’ she wrote on Instagram at the time. 

‘We are so happy. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with my best friend. Thank you for all the love. BIG LOVE JM & Themeli.’

Upon her return to Australia, Jessica was asked about her engagement by paparazzi at Sydney Airport and confessed it was unexpected. 

‘It is very exciting. It was a big surprise in fact, it was pretty crazy!’ she said. 

Themeli, a soccer player from the Northern Territory, reportedly sought approval from his family in Greece before asking Jessica to marry him.

They first met on a night out more than a decade ago, and spent seven years in a long-distance relationship before he relocated to Sydney in 2016.
