Dave Hughes SLAMMED by fans for tweeting about filming The Masked Singer

Australian comedian and radio personality Dave Hughes was slammed by fans on Monday, after he tweeted about filming The Masked Singer Australia while Melbourne is in the grips of a stage-four lockdown.

The 49-year-old posted about how there were no cars on the road as he was on his way home from set, when followers questioned him about whether filming for the show is really ‘essential.’

‘The people losing jobs and businesses at the moment must be thrilled to hear that this filming is deemed essential, Jim’s mowing franchise owners can’t even mow a lawn,’ one user wrote.

Another said: ‘Doesn’t really feel essential.’

While another remarked: ‘How the Masked Singer is essential gets me but, hey.’

Dave had tweeted: ‘Just finished a night of filming and literally the only other vehicle I saw on the road during my 8km journey home from Docklands to St Kilda was a police car.’

Some of his followers jumped to his defence, saying: ‘OMFG! So many a**ewipes on Twitter, I actually enjoy watching the Masked Singer with my kids so I’m happy it’s still being filmed.’

Another remarked: ‘Surely making TV and entertainment is more important than ever, not to mention keeping a bunch of crew employed. Can’t believe people are angry about that.’

Melbourne has been in strict stage-four lockdown since August 2, amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Residents may only leave their homes for food and essential items, daily exercise, care for others and work if they cannot work from home.

There’s also a strict curfew being between 8pm and 5am.

The Masked Singer has been filming in Docklands, in the coronavirus-ravaged Melbourne.

Earlier this month, Dave’s fellow judge Jackie O was forced to apologise after she was caught on the set of The Masked Australia in Melbourne without a face mask.

She was previously pictured arriving to the set without a face covering, and photos of the moment were splashed across a local tabloid.

Jackie apologised for the gaffe on her KIIS FM radio show.

In Melbourne, face mask are now mandatory in public to limit the spread of coronavirus.

Victoria has been struggling with a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases in recent weeks.

Addressing the front-page story on her KIIS FM breakfast show, Jackie admitted she had made a mistake and felt ‘really stupid’ for forgetting her mask.

Her co-host Kyle Sandilands started the broadcast at 6am by rattling off the negative headlines about Jackie, who was clearly mortified.

She said she found it particularly embarrassing because she had previously spoken of the importance of wearing masks and social distancing during the pandemic.

‘It’s my fault, I feel really stupid,’ Jackie confessed.

The mother-of-one explained that she had been rushing from her hotel to the set, and only realised on the drive over that she’d forgotten her mask.

She said: ‘I was coming from my hotel room… and we’re always running late with hair and makeup, and then we quickly packed everything up and we got in the car.

‘It’s only a two-minute drive, and on my way I thought, “Oh my gosh, I’ve forgotten my mask.” No excuse [but] I got out of my car and they gave me a mask.’

Jackie explained that the photo of her without a mask had been taken in the split second when she was dashing from her car to the set.

She concluded: ‘It’s stupid. I was in a rush. I forgot it, and I’m sorry.’
