Christine Anu has shared her ‘disappointment’ over a controversy surrounding the aboriginal flag. 

The singer, who has Torres Strait Islander heritage, revealed her dismay over WAM Clothing Pty Ltd holding a worldwide copyright licensee over the tri-coloured flag’s design.

‘How can a clothing company have the right over something that is a symbol to a nation?’ the 50-year-old told The Herald Sun on Tuesday.

‘How can somebody have such control over it… and take a symbol of identity away Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders? That really disappoints me to no end.’ 

The Masked Singer star went on to explain what the flag meant to her. 

‘It’s identity, it’s recognition, it’s pride, it’s connection, it’s belonging,’ she told the publication.

The My Island Home singers comments follow reports the flag will not be displayed during the AFL’s Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round as the AFL does not want to pay ‘fees’ to WAM.

Instead, they will opt to paint the word ‘deadly’ on the field. 

Meanwhile, on a lighter note, The Project’s hosts got more than they bargained for when Christine Anu appeared during Tuesday’s episode.

The singer and songwriter was being interviewed on the family-friendly show when she accidentally dropped the F-bomb on live TV.

Christine was asked if she’d consider re-releasing her hit single, My Island Home, and her candid response left the show’s hosts stunned.

‘You say re-release and I’ve done a f**king million versions,’ she said, before quickly realising her mistake and adding, ‘Oh, s**t! Did I swear?!’

After registering what she’d said, host Waleed Aly quickly announced that it was the end of the show.

‘Somebody put a mask on her now!’ shouted fellow host Peter Helliar.
