Charles Dance admits he would sign the petition to remake the Game Of Thrones final season

Game Of Thrones’ final season got mixed reviews from critics and was widely lambasted by viewers and fans.

Charles Dance joined the ranks of those disappointed fans when he said he would sign a petition calling for the entire final season of the HBO hit to be remade.

The 73-year-old English actor weighed in on his former series in an interview with PopCulture.com published Monday.

Not a fan: Charles Dance, 73, said he supported signing a petition calling on Game Of Thrones’ final season to be remade due to his disappointment with the ending; shown in April 2019

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who played Jaime Lannister on Game Of Thrones, got the ball rolling last week when he said he ‘almost wanted to donate to that petition.’

The petition was launched last year and demands that the finale season be remade with ‘competent writers.’

It currently has more than 1.8 million signatures, with a goal of 3 million, though there’s almost no chance that HBO will remake any portion of the series.

Dance, who played Tywin Lannister, the patriarch of the Lannister family, revealed he hadn’t heard of the petition when asked about it, but he added, ‘Well if there was a petition, I would sign it.’

Dance admitted that he kept up with the series to the end, despite only lasting into season five.

‘I mean, I saw it. I continue to watch the whole series even after I’d been killed off in the lavatory,’ he said, laughing.

‘Because I just thought it’s a fantastic television show, you know? I was very lucky to be part of it. I loved it; there were storylines [where] I wanted to know what was going to happen to these people!

‘I know that the finale satisfied a lot of people. It also disappointed a lot of people, and I’m afraid I am in the latter camp,’ he said.

Dance had kind words for the showrunners and writers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, but he was disappointed by the finale, which concluded with a reserved scene of the surviving characters discussion who should lead Westeros.

‘I think David and Dan raised the bar when it came to television screenplay writing,’ he continued. ‘They are phenomenal. And for the whole thing to end up as a committee, I just thought, “Hmm, no.” I would say I was somewhat underwhelmed by [the ending].’

A year ago, HBO’s President of Programming Casey Bloys told Entertainment Weekly that the finale season remake was dead in the water.

‘The petition shows a lot of enthusiasm and passion for the show, but it wasn’t something we seriously considered. I can’t imagine another network would,’ he said.

However, HBO is looking to return to Westeros for the prequel series House Of The Dragon, which is set 300 years before the events of Game Of Thrones and follows the exploits of the House Targaryen, from which Emilia Clarke’s character Daenerys Targaryen was descended.
