Camila Cabello’s Cinderella film set to resume production in the U.K. amid the coronavirus pandemic

Camila Cabello’s Cinderella film is set to resume production in the UK with extensive testing before and during production

As Hollywood faces unprecedented losses after a spring and much of the summer with shuttered movie theaters and halted productions, certain projects are finding a way to resume shooting as the coronavirus pandemic carries on.

Camila Cabello’s updated Cinderella movie, costarring Missy Elliott, is slated to ‘safely’ resume production in the United Kingdom, Entertainment Tonight Canada reports.

The outlet says that robust safety precautions, including extensive testing before and during production along with safety training and thorough daily disinfections, will be in place to ensure, as best as possible, that there is no risk of the spread of COVID-19.

Other strategies, like traditional social distancing as well as contact tracing, will also be employed.

Production on the movie, cowritten by James Corden, initially started in mid-February, but like every other production, it was put on hiatus in March as the coronavirus outbreak reached fever pitch.

And while the pandemic has been contained in previous epicenters like New York City, all agree that the end of the pandemic is nowhere in sight.

With that said, productions like Cinderella as well as dinosaur blockbuster Jurassic World: Dominion have restarted shooting, in hopes that enough safety precautions taken will allow the projects to be completed in a timely manner.

The New York Times last week published new behind-the-scenes photos showing how the dinosaur thriller is trying to create a safe environment for its cast and crew.

The movie’s safety procedures are outlined in a 107-page safety manual covering ‘everything from the infrared temperature scanners the cast and crew encounter upon arrival to the vacuum-sealed meals provided by masked workers standing behind plastic partitions in the takeout-only cafeteria.’

Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard also posted the photos to her Instagram, sharing her thoughts on what the changes mean in a larger sense:

‘Though the changes on sets are a product of a COVID world, I and so many others believe many of the protocols will last far beyond the current visible crisis. Protocols around effective communication, collaborative decision-making, and consent and touch are examples of a system that above all prioritizes equity.

‘We are rebuilding set dynamics and creating an environment in which all parties feel safe, heard, and supported,’ she continued. ‘That’s a space we will strive for, pandemic or not.’

Cinderella, meanwhile, will mark the the feature film acting debut for Senorita songstress Cabello.

The modern retelling of the classic fairytale will also star Billy Porter as the Fairy Godmother, and Minnie Driver as the Queen.

The news comes as countless films – from John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place Part II to Christopher Nolan’s Tenet – have been delayed further and further due to movie theaters around the world remaining closed.

Cinderella was originally intended for release next February, and perhaps this return to shooting is part of producers’ hopes to meet and honor that deadline.
