Tiffani Thiessen digs up flashback swimsuit photo as ‘research’ for Saved By The Bell reboot

Tiffani Thiessen digs up flashback swimsuit photo for ‘character study’ as she does ‘research’ to reprise Kelly Kapowski Saved By The Bell reboot

She is reprising her role of Kelly Kapowski on the Saved By The Bell reboot.

And Tiffani Thiessen had her own way of conducting ‘research’ as she embarked on a ‘character study’ ahead of the gig.

The 46-year-old dug up an old swimsuit picture of herself from the original run of the sitcom, which ran from 1989 to 1993.

Looking back: Tiffani Thiessen had her own way of conducting ‘research’ ahead of the Saved By The Bell reboot, posting a swimsuit snap from the original series to her Instagram

Tiffani, who also acted on Beverly Hills 90210, captioned the picture: ‘#tbt #research #characterstudy,’ adding a heart emoji.

During the show her character works as a lifeguard and the swimsuit look Tiffani posted to Instagram was the uniform for that job.

Kelly Kapowski’s high school sweetheart on the original teen sitcom was Zach Morris played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar.

Late last year Tiffani told Parade: ‘Mark Paul and I didn’t know it [the reboot] was happening,’ and said they would not be back.

‘You know, we are doing other things. We’ve got other things happening, which is maybe the reason why they didn’t call. I don’t know!’

She also said: ‘It seems like every show’s being rebooted for some reason. Can we just come up with original content? Is that a lost cause?’

However by January Mark-Paul told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: ‘I think Tiffani has been engaged with. It looks like you will have us in some capacity.’

The reboot has largely been filmed but production was shut down by the coronavirus lockdowns before Tiffani and Mark-Paul’s scenes were shot.

‘They had been in production since January, but because of my schedule and because of Tiffani Thiessen’s schedule, we could not join the production when it started,’ Mark-Paul said this April to Entertainment Tonight.

‘We had about two weeks left of filming, just Tiffani and my footage, but it’s put on hold. So hopefully we are going to get back to that…whenever we can.’

Tiffani’s throwback post comes shortly after it was announced that the Saved By The Max pop-up will be back for five days in August.

In accordance with coronavirus safety protocols the pop-up will provide the themed menu items only via takeout, according to a press release.

The experience will be on offer from August 20-25 in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago, beginning on National Saved By The Bell Day.

Saved By The Max co-creator Derek Berry explained: ‘We’ve all seen the hospitality industry turned upside down these past months. And with fans still yearning for more we saw the opportunity to bring back the Bayside spirit.’
